A better analogy is the fact that I don't spend all my money now so that I have plenty later when I need it.

So while my long-term plan is to live large, my short-term plan must necessarily support it. And that means I don't waste my money on shit, though I intend to later on.

When Jimmy Johnson took over the Dallas Cowboys he went with a youth policy. They finished the first season 1 from 16 but they got experience that allowed them to develop into Superbowl winners a few years later.

They could have used more experienced players in that first year but then they wouldn't have had those young players developing the required experience. Then they wouldn't have won the Superbowl.

Did he sign anyone of youth, or up and coming stars?????

Did they have as much potential of Esi, Lassalo and Taoutai, or weren't they as talented.

They were more like Sandow and Hopoate, but there were certainly a few duds.

So one player was erratic, and the other was signed 3 years in advance, and will probably arrive to the club with a new coach. Oh, and the rest were like lassalo and esi.

Thx

Well mate so does yours.

Tell me this; do you think it's possible that chasing short-term success can interfere with building the capacity for long-term success?

There is no reason why a coach can't have short term success and achieve it for the long haul. Flanagan recruited well and can now build on his squad as good players will prefer to go there than with us. Hell he might even have an academy in place for all you know.

Maybe SK should call him as well. What do you think ?

Poopoo - that Dallas Cowboys analogy is not very apt as the NFL has a draft system where it allowed the Cowboys to pick fairly early in the draft and pick the better players + they benefited from the lopsidded Walker trade.

This is Flanagan's third year in charge. In previous years he has finished 14th and 13th.

He also has an Origin quality captain leading the team on the field.

The analogy is apt in the sense that a long-term plan can lead to personnel shortfalls in the short term.

For example, some people think we need to sign another centre for next year, but that will take away opportunity from the young outside backs we already have at the club, and limit their development.
