Eels under pressure to turn around recruitment policies

How the hell have we missed the signature of Adam Blair? He hasn't signed with anyone yet has he? Kearney coached him at the Storm, coaches him for the Kiwis and the club has plenty of money to spend in the salary cap. Seriously if another club is able to sign him over us I'm going to be really pissed off after losing Mateo. Do we not like recruiting marquee quality players?

Blair's asking price is 500k a season... Kearney obviously and rightfully thinks that's too much and therefore is not pursuing him.

I think Luke Burt was the only one that tipped us to do well. I was always thinking of this as a nothing year for Kearney to mould the club in the right direction. If what is said in the article is happening or on its way to happening then sk is doing well at this point in time.

Re: the board. I am curious to know what the turn around from $9m in the red to $7m in the black is from. My expectations of the board are for them to keep the club going into the future and employ the right people. If the turn around is from just a bit of creative bookkeeping where they've just sold off a bunch of assets to make our cash position look better or from just letting go of good people and merging roles (like 5/8 and media liaison) then it's a fail. If a big chunk of it is from retaining and attracting new sponsors then great work and they should be retained come election time.

Yes Spiderdan a $16m turnaround sounds very impressive.

So much for all the doom and gloom of increased poker machine duty.

Must have got a new accountant.

They did actually and for a lot less than what was previously being paid.
They have saved a few dollars on new contracts than what was previously being paid
Plus I think that bakers mew development has been leased finally so interest payments there if any have been minimised.
A good result whatever way you look at it if true

And to think our former board and CEO said we would not be around in 5 years. How bad was the mismanagement??!!

I think the 5 year comment was a bit of a cheeky comment made in regards to the increased taxes.

Anyway I'm as glad as anyone that Fitzgerald is gone.
Believe it or not I too voted for the new board.

Blair for 500K or Symonds for about 200K?

seriously, should we answer that question??

it would of been easy for SK to match any offer and sign Blair but he recognises that we need some serious depth accross the board and he appears to be working on that..

Sounds like excuses.for failure next year as well. All this talk about frustration watching other.eels players killing it for other clubs is all cute but at the end of the.day its called salary cap. He might not be used to it cause the storm didnt believe in it. He is paid to bring the club results. Until he does I will not believe all the hype about him.

Now getting ready 4 the hates to blast me

Why don't you look at it like better talent identification and retention?
Salary cap doesn't come into it for every player let go. More like they leave for opportunity To crack 1st grade

nah! I'll just disagree with you and say that the last 2 coach's put this club backwards about 3 seasons...SK and Arthur both couldn't believe the mess and lack of structure that was at the club when they walked in last Novemeber.

So you think the club has been on the right path since Smithy left???? Kearney has raised some points a lot of people have been unhappy about here for quite a while.

In the last 5 years juniors we have lost

Keating
Hodko
Williams
T -Rex
Kelly
Maloney
Gardiner
INU
Mateo
Smith
Taia
Farah
Hauraki

There are 4 halves there that are light yrs ahead of what we have now and thats not including Mateo, not all those we could have or should have kept but that is quite of list of juniors let along other talent we have brought in.

Staggers how close do u think we are in gettying Symonds and Sandow, unless there is a signed contract people should prob not get overly excited.

personaly, i don't know, but I would trust the judgement of Jodeci and a couple of others who seem to think that the deals are pretty much done. I'm relatively confident that we'll see a positive result there.

a lot of this got a bit of a mention last year http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/eels-insist-anderson-must-go/story-e6frexnr-1225929346620

The Sunday Telegraph understands Anderson had the support of most senior players when they were interviewed over the past fortnight.

But it was a different story when members of his own coaching staff and other football club officials where interviewed by Gerard, Osborne and Duncan.

Among the recommendations from the report were: not to extend Anderson's contract; appoint a wrestling coach; address Anderson's communication skills with his staff; address the lack of player discipline and punctuality at training; more individual skill sessions; and the need for a better recruitment policy.

The report also recommended the appointment of a full-time football manager, which Anderson had originally not wanted.

Andersn really f**ked up and so to did Hagan

it will take time to repair the damage

good to see SK has a plan
