Eels under pressure to turn around recruitment policies

Dude, DA and Hagan rarely attended the junior reps, were poor communicators with the lower grade caoches and did not seek advice from those beneath them,

If you want a real scary story, I spoke to Rocket about recruitment, said size and speed were important and we lacked some of that. He said he took little notice of that and just recruited on skills, and we wonder why the players added to the NYC and Ball from outside have been relatively poor over the past 5/6 years

Mate, you cannot blame DA and Hagan for that at all. When they were head coaches the Pokie tax kicked in and then Fitzy and co made a number of financial cutbacks resulting and recruitment officers and talent scout positions being made redundant.

It's only now that the new board after selling off a bunch of assetts last year are in the financial position (time will tell if it was a good decision or not) to be able to have full time employees in these roles again so Kearney has a lot more to work with than Hagan and DA did.

All I want is to stop losing the trent hodkinsons of the world to other clubs. Speaking of the Academy the first name they should put in there is Kelepi Talangoa (sp). Kid is a machine and had a great game in the Ball on the weekend along with the 5/8 errington

Is Kelepi still at Parra? I thought he moved on. If he's still here, that's great news.

I mentioned Kelepi earlier in the season, the kid looks awesome.
Needs to be nurtured though or he will just end up like Weller and co. A great performer in the lower grade who couldn't pull it together in the NRL.

whilst that is true there were definitely no cutbacks in the cap and area of recruitment in top 25..both those coach's made some really really poor decisions there which we're still paying for.

Hagan made some very bad decisions, diabolical tbh, he lost the senior players too with his handling of the younger guys!

Who's decision was it to chase Cronk etc. the contracted players?? This is not me defending DA as it may have been his decision but whoever wanted us to chase contracted players also set us back!

i couldn't care what anyone tells me regarding certain events that happened last year but the only decision the board and CEO took upon themselves to over rule the coach on was Quade Cooper..That's it!

the coach made a decision on any player that they sort after signed and released until a payout figure was agreed upon.

It baffles me why a coach would chase contracted players!!

Tahu??????

Pretty sure the one who didn't want to resign Tahu was the (then) coach yet the CEO did it anyway?

Great move that proved for us

a lot of club and player managers still pawn contracted players, it's probably more common now than it was a few years back but I think going after Cronk and focussing our efforts to get him here was did really hamper our efforts to attract a few other players at the club but i believe DA was very open to the idea and with the CEO definitely explored it.

personaly, I don't like the idea of a contracted player being enticed to another club but it is definitely common practice these days.

:blahb: I'll give Kearney one thing, he sure does have friends in the right places.

I always have and always will be a Parramatta Eels supporter first and foremost. And I will always watch and cheer on the team no matter who is in the side or who the coach is but...

I am so sick and tired of the pro-Kearney propaganda from certain sections of the media. The guy may well turn out to be a terrific coach in years to come but for now, he is a rookie who has achieved nothing. All these articles do is put more pressure on the poor bloke.

If the powers that be in this great club have made the decision to ride out the next few years to give Kearney every possible chance to succeed, then good on them. It is the right thing to do for a coach. The question is why Anderson - a career coach with a record most coaches would kill for - was not given the same consideration.

Anyway, here's hoping the only way is up for our great club.

WOE

PS: IMO, the only positive thing this current group running the club has done is to revert to the old (best) logo and return our jersey to it's best design. Other than that, what have they done that the previous jokers couldn't have done? Recruitment under this current mob has been nothing short of diabolical. Let's hope things improve shortly or we are heading back to the dark old days of the late 80's - early 90's.

Influenced by the UK where contracts are worthless.

I know!

Gosh I wish the media hated this coach too. How awesome was it with the media putting shit on us every week? I really miss it.

The guy may well turn out to be a terrific coach in years to come but for now, he is a rookie who has achieved nothing.

He's had success at rep level for a few years now. He's also come from a club system that developed a lot of good players. He was part of that and I doubt they would have had nuffies in their coaching staff.

But if you're that worried about what a bloke has or hasn't achieved, Michael Hagan won a premiership.

All these articles do is put more pressure on the poor bloke.

Does he seem to you like the kind of bloke who crumbles under pressure?

If the powers that be in this great club have made the decision to ride out the next few years to give Kearney every possible chance to succeed, then good on them. Any question about Anderson should be answered with "Who cares?" He's not the coach and he's gone, and the current club management have hung their reputations on Kearney. That's their prerogative; that's their mandate.

Anyway, here's hoping the only way is up for our great club.

Apparently they've turned a deficit into a profit. You can argue all you want about how they've done it, but it needed to be done.

And if you're a real Parra fan you'll be hoping they have more success in the future, and if they've made mistakes you'll be hoping they've learnt from them and become better administrators.

Because the last thing we want is for the club's members to fall into the habit of replacing the board every election.

Recruitment under this current mob has been nothing short of diabolical. Let's hope things improve shortly or we are heading back to the dark old days of the late 80's - early 90's.

And it's important we don't become a bunch of whiny drama queens either.

A contract's still a contract, and clubs can't sign a player contracted to another club unless that club releases him.

But at the same time, if a player wants out he won't be playing his best and the club is better off selling him while his form's good and they can still get a big transfer fee for him.

Also, plenty of contracts have a minimum fee release clause. In Spain it's a legal requirement in every player contract.
