Just on the storm bit. It's easier to develop youngsters when you have a team of superstars to support them. So I give him zero credit for that. They cheated.

They didn't have the team of superstars until they'd developed them - the team of superstars were the youngsters.

I realise this. They shouldn't have been able to keep them all together. It made it easier for them to develop talent.
You need to get out of Melbourne. You have fallen for the spin.

We've won 3 games by round 7 - same as last year, although we did hold more hope of a turnaround last year because the players we had available were much better.

Kearney deserves time because of the shit squad he's inherited. He's also shown his ability coaching the Kiwis, and he served a fair apprenticeship at a club that's renown for developing juniors. Cheating aside, you can't take that away from them.

So did Anderson - that was my point. He didn't bring us instant success with the poor squad he inherited (in actual fact he almost did) and then he was punted for a rookie coach??? The whole thing stinks of pettiness & unprofessionalism.

Anyway, Stephen Kearney is now the current coach. He has my full support, as do the current players. Let's hope he fulfils this "potential" so many talk about while he is still here.

My concern is that he will never really get the chance. The word around town is that we have all this money to spend & no one [of note] wants to come here. I would like to know what the reason is for all these quality players brushing us. I don't remember it happening so much in the past. Have we now become the new South Sydney? - i.e. we'll take whoever's left.

Stop talking sense. You will confuse a few of the simple ones.

I have no problem if DA was punted for a steve folkes, Gus Gould, Bennett, but to be punted for a rookie is a disgrace.

I don't care if Melbourne developed all their merkins or not, they stole a premiership from Hindy, Cayless and Burty and deserve to be labelled as cheating merkin's for the rest of their careers.

I agree 100% but it doesn't change the fact they developed that first batch of stars - Inglis, Slater, Folau and Cam Smith.

The current young guns don't count so much because of the environment they were brought into, but the existing batch were developed as normal.

I'm not saying it gives them any right to keep them all, or if they did choose to keep them they shouldn't have been adding first graders like Lowrie and Finch. But they at least developed their big names from scratch.

Agreed. But it's beside the point.

I hate the Melbourne Storm til I die but it doesn't stop me seeing what they did right. Therefore my hope for Kearney is that he's brought that with him.

Cameron Smith was courted seriously by the titans when they came into the competition before they played a game, he declined, no doubt the "extras" he was earning at melbourne contributed to him staying

Developing is one thing, developing whiilst cheating isnt a level playing field, certainly wasnt a right thing

Maybe Hillsong Church has something to do with all of this!

I know this might be a silly question but how does the salary cap work in NZ . What i mean is that the aussie $ is like $1.35 NZ so if they were paying mateo 400K wouldn't it be more like 540k nz money. I have always wondered how the cap worked compared to the aussie/nz dollar. Anyone care to explain please. It does seem like they would have an advantage if it is as simple as it looks.

Petrol is about $2.20 per litre as an example and the general cost of living is higher also I think, so there really isn't much of an advantage. Wages are lower also which explains why so many of them chose to live here instead.
