Eels give Cowboys rude awakening
5:03 PM May 8

North Queensland came into round nine leading the National Rugby League but will go home with their tails between their legs after being flogged 50-12 by Parramatta at Parramatta Stadium.

The match was all over by half-time, when the Eels had opened up a 24-6 lead. They then piled on the misery for the Cowboys in the second half, finishing with nine tries to two with interchange forward Dean Widders and full-back Wade McKinnon each scoring a double.

Winger Luke Burt was also in the points, finishing with 18 from a try and seven conversions.

North Queensland scored first, with Test winger Matt Sing crossing after just two minutes, but from then on it was all the Eels.

Their first try took 22 minutes when John Morris scored, and three minutes later they had the lead with a converted try to Luke O'Dwyer.

Parramatta had their third try in seven minutes when Fui Fui Moi Moi crossed just inside half an hour, before Burt bagged their fourth try two minutes from the break. Widders's first came four minutes into the second half, before Cowboys fans had hope when David Faimu crossed and Josh Hannay converted.

But the floodgates opened with a McKinnon try, with Ben Smith and Widders crossing before McKinnon got his second with just minutes remaining.
