It's the old "they'll play here for less" smokescreen.

They may well get less money on the cap, but are likely "well compensated" by other means.

This scenario is possible when you have a wealthy benefactor as the roosters do, or conglomerate of business people as the broncos do with the thoroughbreds.

Until the NRL get serious about player values or instigate a points based system, this rorting will continue unabated to the benefit of some and the detriment of most...
A points system doesn't work. How would a points bases system value a player such a Josh Dugan last year, when he was still considered a representative player and a spine player. Would his value have dramatically decreased due to him not playing origin this year and playing centre too? How would a points system value a player such as Payne Haas, David Fifita or Papenhuzzen.

Yes easy, reviewed and upgraded / dopwngraded each year by an independant panel based on performance and achievements (rep honours). If they have a poor year..drop em a point or their BEST is past them.
People sayng it cant work dont look far enough into it and think about it
My god if they can send their NRL draw to venezuela for some guru on a computer to get the crap we come up with then a yearly upgraded points sytem can be worked out
I'll do it for and grab some good judges with me to put a rating 1-5 on every current (non retiring or leaving) NRL registered player. Have it done by Nov 1. New ones assessed as they come in.

A few points about some of the responses on here. I wasn't alive then but Dragons domination in the 1960's was done within the rules of that time. Money was then and is now what most contributes to success. The difference now is that one club, Roosters are using their financial advantage, in a competition where others are prevented by the rules of the competition from being able to match.

The cap should be enforced equitably or removed all together. Some clubs would go broke, sure, but at least everything would be more transparent. The Roosters will get caught, or a revolt will occur. There are influencial people pulling strings and ensuring that some clubs prosper year after year.

Fans should look at the top and call for the likes of Todd Greenberg (remember Bulldogs 2002 he was behind/part of that) no wonder rorts still continue for vested interests when a known rorter rules the game

You mean like the 50's and 60's when the top 4 was always saints, Souths, Balmain and Wests.
Ha ha. And you still have major butt hurt
My advice to you is just acknowledge what a great side this Roosters team is.
Sounds like you're trying to convince yourself more than anyone else.

Most Easts supporters (excuse me... "Sydney" supporters) are celebrating their premiership. I know this because I saw 5 of them on TV having a good time. But you obviously feel the need to troll another team's forum in an attempt to scrub that growing asterix next to your club's trophy case.

Terry Hill only contested the validity of the draft under Nick Politis and co's instructions. They probably paid for his legal fees too. It was Easts/Politis who challenged the validity of the draft. Politis is one of the games power brokers. He was a central figure for the ARL in the Superleage war. He is definitely one of the most powerful people in the game. Easts/Politis don't want a draft, that is why we don't have a draft.
Is it true that Politis owns over 100 car dealerships around Australia ?

Is it true that Politis owns over 100 car dealerships around Australia ?

Mr Politis, who holds 36.3 per cent of car dealership group AP Eagers, also said it was the right time for the group to be buying rival Automotive Holdings Group because scale was becoming very important in the vehicle dealership industry.

"This is where everything is going; you need scale now,'' he said. "We'll have the right geographic mix.''

A combined AP Eagers and AHG would have 229 new-car dealership locations in Australia, 13 in New Zealand and 68 new-vehicle truck and bus dealership locations in Australia. The merged entity would have 11.9 per cent of the new-car dealership market in Australia.

LOL,

Yeah, its a massive empire. Nearly 12% of the entire new car market..

His net worth has tripled in 10 years... ( source wiki )

According to BRW magazine, his wealth as of 2010 was estimated at $182 million.[7] However, as of 2013, it was estimated at more than $200 million, with business turn-over of $4 billion annually. The following year in 2014, BRW released its annual Rich 200 list which listed Politis's wealth at $410 million.[8] In 2016, Politis's wealth was listed at $594 million, thus becoming the 86th wealthiest Australian.[9]
