Earlier on in the year: elliot came out stating that they had a war chest of 1 million to unleash on the player market. Has there been any major signings or re-signings yet?
Looks like only a few players are still left on the market- with most players re-signed and other indicated they are going to the ESL or rugby.

These were the players that were listed:

Brent Tate- linked to the warriors but yet to sign
Justin Hodges - yet to re-sign???
Craig Wing- linked to dogs and rugby
Mark O'Meley- signed with roosters
Ben Hornby - yet to re-resign
Bronson Harrison - yet to re-sign with tigers
Luke O'Donnell- resigned with the cowboys
Jason Ryles- apparently heading to ESL

Anybody else you guys are after - player market is heating up

The money available will not be spent on current marquee players.

We need to find those young players of the highest quality whom our competitors cannot retain because of cap restraints.

Surely, the Melbourne Storm with the youngsters they have on their books cannot retain them given there existing playing roster.

That's where we should be looking to recruit, not the likes of Ryles, Hornby, Wing and Co but the Australian Under 19 reps from the junior ranks of other high profile clubs.

Given the likes of Jennings and Grant coming through, we should be looking more towards young players from other clubs who have represented at the junior level who with the money we have available we would surely be more than competitive in attracting based on dollars.

I am a bit dissapointed we didnt get involved with mark O'meley or havent been linked to brett White.

other than that there isnt a whole lot out there.

although if wallace leaves Wing might not be a bad option.

There is a lot of talent out there in the PL and Flegg sides of our club and our competitiors. We just need to identify three or four top class kids to compliment what we already have and I can see some good time ahead.

No doubt , We are never really going to have a problem with juniors coming through though.

there is always a spot for one or two experienced players coming in , in the end they help the development of the younger players.

Jamie Soward is someone i'd be pursuing for the #6 or #7 jersey

He would be an option because at the end of the day, right now, we are clearly three to four class players short of competing in this competition.

I have full faith in Matt Elliot and some tough decisions are ahead of him.

Sure we shed player since 2004 but after each week passes it becomes more apparent some further hard decisions need to be made and we probably need a wholesale clean out and start from scratch.

Today on the Roast Gould was going on about someone coming to terms with St George and being able to play for them as early as next week. I think it was Soward?

Clearly Matt Elliot's supposed $1M plus to spend is largely going to have to stay in his pocket as there ain't a lot of marquee players available to spend it on.

I would prefer if we forgot about the supposed marquee players and went out and handpicked 6-8 of the best young players in PL or Flegg who have the potential to become top notch first graders in the next couple of seasons. They are out there, I watch a lot of PL and Flegg each week and there are obvious standouts. Obviously not all are always available but we need to unearth another Amos Roberts, Ben Ross and after we get them bloody well hang onto them!

I agree with that.

Take the lead of other clubs and snap up some quality junior players.

I think Cooper Vuna could have been someone we should have looked at...as I said last year...he has raw talent and that will now be at the Knights.

Josh Lewis now going to the Titans would be great for us...but now another team will benefit from his array of talents....same as Jamie Soward.

I consider myself an optimist and I hate to be negative but I really think we need a major shakeup.

Lewis would have been great value, but I'm not sure we even considered it as an option.

Same goes for Soward. Neither of the halves in our PL side in Bond or Trindall are up to NRL and likewise in Flegg as Nathan Pill good like player that he is will again not make the step up.

I'm thinking radical but maybe Gowie to hooker and release both Priddis and Aiton for 2008. Gowie has lost a yard of pace and maybe would be best served finishing up his career in the dummy half role in which he is proven having represented there in the past. Gowie would play 80 minutes in the position which would allow greater flexibility of the bench.

We really have to look at our options because the current playing roster just isnt up to it. I accept that may attract criticism but after 2 and 1/2 of underachievement the excuses no longer cut it.

Just found this in the knights forum

"Hadley (for what its worth) said on 2GB this morning that Brian Smith has told Clint Newton that there is no place for him at the Knights in 2008 and he would be better off to go to England. For context, he dropped this quote in a rant he was having about Brian Smith and it is common knowledge that the pair have an ongoing feud. Has anyone else heard about a possible move for Clint? I also heard on Fox yesterday that Wooly has been offered "big dollars" by Penrith. Both of these players have had their chances at the Knights and both may benefit from a move. "

I was about to ask if anyone had heard any rumours about who (if anyone) we might be chasing given we have this war chest and haven't been linked to anyone other than wing.

That's not to say I think we should spend the money just because it's there but it would be nice to sign at least one recognised first grader.

On tigers forum it says Penrith are having talks/interested with young kiwi prop/backrower Bronson Harrison who is yet to re-sign with the Tigers. He is having a massive season - cant believe tigers havent sign him up already.

Now there's a chance for a great buy.

I hope there's a lot of truth to that rumour, but I won't hold my breath.

It is about time they used that war chest. Current rumours Clinton signing with tigers. Waterhouse talking with newcastle. Wallace talking to brisbane. Players signed with war chest money nil.

If we lose Clinton, what's the point in signing anyone?

He is the best front rower off contract. FFS.
