Elliott cleaning house

Brian Smith has a horrible track record with star players. He and Elliott are cut from the same cloth.

I'm questioning the thought that a large ME clean out is necessary.

I see people talking about a large broom and that more people need to go...

And I just wonder if enough questions are being asked of the changes being made by Elliot.

Playing devils advocate if you will...

I'm not convinced a massive clean out is needed, but I'm not sure we're having a massive clean out. I like to think of it more of a restructuring, and I think the changes to Vulcans/NYC etc are part of the "clean out" but whenever people here those two words it automatically becomes a "half the squad out" mentality.

Don't believe that's quite what the Warriors are going for.

It certainly beats being sycophant like yourself... Who gobbles up whatever rubbish is being fed to them in the sake of not rocking the boat.

see, that's just being lazy when you know that isn't true.

while we might be fans of the club, you're using your not being a fan as a way to win any disagreement in viewpoint - anyone who disagrees with you and agrees with what the club is doing is a sycophant fan of the club and will believe anything, while the odds are, knowing this forum, that's not even remotely true.

elliott may not be the right coach (i think a lot of us would agree to that, and would prefer him as something like a football director with hands off to a degree), but we need his mentality more than oxygen.

The thing that makes me laugh about this whole situation is the fact that it's Matthew Elliot doing this clean out...

He a real good bloke... A real good bloke..

But let's be honest here... He's a f**king ordinary coach.

I'm quite dubious of what's going on at this club... I think more questions should be asked about the talent Elliot's releasing.

Packer I can understand... His attitude has become a public issue.

But there seems to be more and more names being thrown in here as problems.

I mean Shaun Johnson and Ben Matulino??

At what stage do you say... Well maybe ME isn't a good enough coach to get the best out if the talent we have developed.

The question I have... Would a coach like Bennett or Hasler or Bellamy let these types if players go if they were in this position... I honestly don't think so...

People seem to have this blind faith that Elliot will do this clean out and the club will be better for it... Well IMO if you wanted to clean a club out... Matt Elliot is hardly a guy with any sort of track record to do so.

Brian Smith would be the guy for that job...

I know what you mean...but at the end of the day ME is the Coach. He should be allowed to make changes as he sees fit. You can't limit the guys powers on the grounds he's 'average!' He's been given the role and the job. At this stage, and from last year I saw more issues from the players. IMO that has to change.
He should be allowed to complete his contract...but should he wish to release some of the big name players, you would hope he has a good reason for doing so.
At least he's not doing a Ricky Stuart, shoving a broom through then leaving after a single year...
I thought there was enough this year for ME to be given his second, I'll guess we'll see next year if it's worth it! Hindsight will either show it was a great move or a disaster. And if it is, Scurrah needs to walk with him

I was firing back at Fast Eddie directly there....

Yup... And that's the mentality I'm seeing here... And it's what I'm questioning.

Yeah for sure... And I understand that completely...

Rightly or wrongly the decision to bring in ME was made.... But once it's made you need to give him the best chance of succeeding.

I understand that...

But I guess what I'm asking is... At what stage is a question going to be asked of ME?

And I'm putting on field results aside...

I've seen people on this forum say that they would be okay with ME getting rid of Matulino and to a lesser extent Johnson if there attitude is not right... That surprises me greatly.

I'm asking... If it ever comes to the point that a guy like Johnson or Matulino is being released.. Do you think the question should be asked of ME instead of the players...

If it was Wayne Bennett or Des Hasler that were releasing players of that caliber then sure... They have a track record of success that makes you feel comfortable that it's necessary.

But this is ME... He's a guy with a reputation of leaving clubs in an absolute mess when he leaves.

I think that while he deserves to be given a licence to build the squad in the best way he sees fit...

In think people need to keep an eye on the big picture too...because you would hate for the club to end up like Penrith were a couple of seasons ago...

I would hope that he doesn't have absolute discretion over player retention. When it comes to our higher profile players, hopefully someone above him would just be saying 'Nope. Not happening. Make it work'. They may have seen Packer as being dispensable.

But then again, we are talking about Scurrah being the person above him. God only knows.

In fairness, a lot of the talk earlier this year was rumours that Elliott would be booted this year. The rumour was then that Wane from Wigan would come over and Elliott would be moved aside to be Football Director so that Wane could be the new coach.

I don't think the names Shaun Johnson or Ben Matulino are anywhere near the 'hit list'. I think there's a lot of scaremongering from rumour-lovers. Packer leaves and people start putting 2 and 2 together and getting 618. Take a look at that clown the Mole who has put up a rumour that a 'fast winger from the Warriors is going to Souths.' He knows people will suspect Fisiiahi. Those who think logically will see that as a load of hot snot. Fish is a Elliott project through and through. It is possibly Viliami Lolehea, but that doesn't sell re-tweets.

Good news, he was a dud buy except for 2 or 3 games and always gave away penalties.

Any word where he might be going to? I guess he was taking up cap space too

Broncos. Doesn't make sense to me but that's the word from people who apparently know.

No source yet but take it as gospel Todd Lowrie is gone.

Not going to lose sleep over this if it's accurate, his numbers this season were reasonable, but his body language on the field was atrocious, he looked to be going through the motions at best.

Lol Broncos, Kearney as defensive coach, Barba (who was a myth this season) and Lawrie and everyone is talking them up as a contender for 2014, how the might have fallen

Lowrie release now official on Warriors site. Compassionate family-related reasons: best of luck to the guy. Never quite bought into the demented hate some gave him on the forums.
