Someone posted on FB his email to Todd about us not getting the rub of the green in games lately. I think last 4 games we have been smashed in the 2nd half with penaltys against us. He goes on and basically says the NRL is making our life hard because of our stance with JDB.
Thoughts?

I actually sent one in to the NRL in 2017 about a similar question and also how the Dragons appeared to continually get a shocking draw etc. etc .

Some lovely young lass wrote back explaining how the draw was done and also the fact that each team was treated the same as far as penalties were concerned ( after all the NRL has the highest standard of refereeing anywhere in the rugby league world etc. etc. ) .

She never explained why our club kept on resigning the maestro year after bluudy year etc. etc . .

The way i see it... yeah they were penalties but was it necessary to blow them. The one infront of the kicker from kickoff and Mcinnes with the play the ball 1, no one whould gave blinked an eyelid if they were let go.
I heard Bill Harrigon the other day say something allong the lines that refs could blow a penalty every set of 6 in a game. Kent then said they should which then Bill replied no one would watch the game if they did.

A dragons fan saying the dragons get the hard stick regarding penalties is not surprising. Nor would it be for any team.

The reasons teams seem to get the short stick are much deeper than a simple conspiracy. Discipline in the Dragons team when fatigued or chasing points has been a problem all season, and the manner in which they argue about it on the field does not help them.

I have no refereeing problems with the game yesterday. Whoever wrote this letter is being one eyed and also scapegoating from the real problem.

McInnes is a great hooker but I'm not convinced he is a great captain yet. He plays for the penalty too often for my liking, and when he doesn't get it, throws up his hands in a way Darius Boyd would be proud of. But Darius is a fullback. McInnes puts the hands up WHILE HE HAS A LIVE BALL BEING FED TO HIM AT THE P2B. Shits me every time. He's going to get the ball dived on by the other team because he's turned looking at the ref. And then he'll do it again when that happens.

TLDR there's no conspiracy, teams lose momentum, discipline, etc in fluctuations, you notice it when it's your team, league also a very hard game to referee perfectly so of course the odd miss will happen.

Generally I think the standard of refereeing is higher and more professional especially amongst the top blokes like Cechin compared to the old days of refs like Pearce, Page, Bruyeres and Hartley. Usually the 50/50 calls even out over a game or a season. However I thought the refereeing in the Manly game was substandard and to our detriment while there were also calls in the first half against the Roosters and the second half against Parra that added to the opposition's momentum. It seems we can't drop a ball backwards without it being declared a knock-on.

Basically I can't accept conspiracy theories. I am confident refs are doing their best but the job is made harder for them when last year they were told to crack down on little misdemeanours then this year they have been instructed to let the game flow more. I think this greater flexibility is fine with the experienced guys but can lead to inconsistency with the less experienced.

I'd say our lack of discipline in the second half of games has more to do with fatigue than anything else. And the fatigue factor has more to do with bench rotation rather than anything else.

Mary should understand that if you are going to rely on our forwards playing the power game, careful selection of those forwards and a good bench rotation is essential for not just the current game, but for the next few games to come.

For me, a power game needs 4 first grade forwards on the bench and by the look on McInnes's face late in each half, that bench should include Robson who could rotate with McInnes and with Lawrie at lock.

I don't envy the referees in this sport. One of the hardest sports to referee in the world, some of the most annoying fans and even worse, media, hounding at them for every little thing.

And people dare to complain about referees sending things to the bunker. The NRL stupidly punish the referees if they have a wrong decision by demoting them if it affects a try, so why wouldn't you send it as a ref? Shit happens and the odd miss shouldn't be met with the toxicity it is. If it's fundamentally an issue over time with the same ref then sure, but take Matt Cecchin for example. Fantastic referee but cops abuse left and right, had to flee the game for a period. I hate the way referees are treated, and this letter some Facebook fan has sent is really a symptom of it

Love how we are the one team penalised for offside from the kick off when Fox and NRL use footage of a Souths player offside from a kick for their magic round bs promo. It's ok for some.

Send that to Greenberg.

Getting exhausted by this argument. Not all referees are a hivemind, different games have different referees so comparing the situations adds nothing really

Tigers and I think it was Eels were also both penalised for being offside at the kick off in recent weeks so it's obviously something they're looking out for. They are always gonna miss some and yeah it's frustrating when it happens to us but there's not much point "sending it to Greenberg" lol

You missed the point. They used an image of an illegal act to show off the game.

In the interest of factual discussions I thought these might be useful.
Average penalties awarded
FD4866CE-A08C-4B19-9C3D-7578F0D61CE3.png
Average penalties conceded
F5B2A34F-C251-4EB7-86CE-D0664FDB082D.png
If anyone wants to use the actual numbers to string a coherent conspiracy theory go ahead.
