Rail network is fine? Ever been to any major city around the world?

Cities bigger than Sydney ive been to with worse public transit:

Chicago
Los Angles
Bangkok
Manila
Jakarta
Istanbul
Delhi
Mumbai
Rio
Sao Paulo
Guadalajara
Cairo
Mexico City (but only marginally worse than Sydney's)

Public transport in LA is a myth. Cali in generall actually. To get from Venice beach to Newport beach would of been like 3 1/2 hours worth of busses. You can drive it in about an hour give or take depending on traffic.

If you cannot afford to pay some peasent to drive you around in most of those places then you should'nt be there.

Light rail from the CBD to UNSW (via SCG/SFS) looks like getting the green light. Will make it just that little bit easier transport wise when the NRL moves more games to one of the big stadiums.

But arent we talking about practical use of public transit for getting to sporting events? 10,000 taxis would hardly be better than cityrail at getting 30,000 people to homebush....

so what has that got to do with any of those places?
did you catch public transport from every one of those cities to a sports arena on game day?

Its pretty f**king obvious what he is saying. Sydneys public transport, in general, is better then a lot of Major cities around the world.

It was a response to someone whinging about bad Sydneys public transport is.

Exactly! its hardly as bad as people seem to think.

I spent 2 years commuting 3hrs a day on cityrail and i would find myself getting the shits about something every week at a minimum. Sydney has some huge geographical hurdles (the sheer size and low population densities) that make further services impractical. Lets not forget it is also an intercity network. Few, if any cities in the world could boast a public transit network with equivilant extremes of dungog, goulburn and nowra. As far as physical size, it would be like the new york subway going from the southern suburbs of boston to washinton dc and incorporating all of newjersey + phili + baltimore and more.

To add to the list of cities bigger than or close to the same size as sydney with worse public transit you could say.
Boston
Miami
Atlanta
Montreal (marginally smaller)
Houston
Dallas
Seattle
Pheonix

Hardly the kind of places where a peasant will drive you around all day for a dollar

I am still amused people think travelling 45-60mins to get to a game is a hardship.

I just did rockdale to Engadine 1 hr.
Imagine you
Now get the family and put them in the car .
Imagine it is Friday arvo.
Now drive to the SFS or Homebush to watch a Sharks home game.
Ye reckon another 1+ hour?
now get ripped off for about 3 hours with parking food and beer.
In an empty soulless stadium.
Now drive in more bumper to bumper traffic all the way home.
