All over fox sports news. Finals only, talk of a 2mil fine as well. One of their guys has taken 4 month suspension, hird the doc and one other dude still fighting their charge.
Hang on a minute. I thought this whole ElephantJuice in sport thing was a conspiresy organised by Gillard, Clare and Lundy. Must be true, Jones on 2GB and Gould said so.

Not good. for us. Long term essendon will come out on top. Hird will smash them financially.
I'm not sure both clubs are that closely linked.

Furthermore, the AFL's decision has been made based on an interim report, where players have yet to be investigated, as well as Hird trying to poo poo the AFL.

Essendon's behaviour in the past month or 3 has been abrasive and against what the AFL expected of them. The interim report found enough information to suggest systematic doping had taken place.

Cronulla is different. They've done what the NRL asked, even let an NRL appointed man be their CEO. They have done all that ASADA has asked of them. They haven't brought the game into disrepute.

Also, the evidence suggesting there was systematic doping at Sharks is nowhere near as compelling as it as at Essendon.

So I don't believe there's any way the Sharks deserve, or will have, their place in the finals removed from them.

Either way we won't be relocating.

At least when we do win a premiership it won't be the Clayton's one you lot got in 2010 after Melbourne got thrown out of the finals.

No wonder you're tangled up with Melbourne, neither of you think cheating is wrong!

Lets have a look at this closely the Essendon case and the Cronulla case are completely different.

We remember that Essendon were tipped off about the investigation before hand so they knew what was coming, there is also reports out of Melbourne that the AFL knew about the supplements at Essendon and may have warned them against using this, even though there is doubt they fail the WADA review.

Our case is totally different to this, ours has always been did we take supplements that were banned by WADA, and WADA have yet to prove we have how can that be bringing the game into disrepute, there will be media organisations who say we have as they need to save face, and certain clubs who are too benefit as well.

Lets look at the two cases in the NRL Melbourne & Bulldogs they were stripped of points for salary cap violations were they penalised for bringing game into disrepute no.

We are yet to be proven to have done anything wrong.

I agree Shaggs.... I'm just not convinced that the decision is too far away . They've had 6 months to go through this, surely it must be close.

If we are to lose points, I'd rather it was for what we have accumulated this year, not start behind or play for nothing next year.

If anything, the investigation into the Sharks is far more advanced than that into Essendon.

ASADA has finished interviewing the Sharks players.

Essendon's players haven't even received letters to attend an interview yet.

What happened to Essendon is more to do with their behaviour this year than with the doping investigation taking place. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there is more bad news for Essendon.

Apparently the NRL has no provision to sanction clubs for disrepute. Not in their Code of Ethics. When talk of Essendon first began that they would get these charges there was talk at the same time that similar charges may not be available to the NRL.

Don't know if that's changed

Roy Masters was talking about it over the weekend and in his mind the two situations weren't really comparable.

Dank was at Essendon for 12 months, and the coach, assistant coach etc overseer the entire supplement program which was found to be unsafe. It's effectively that which they are being punished for. At this stage none of their players have been charged with using any banned substance.

Cronulla on the other hand had Dank there for only a very short period of time, Flanno was certainly not hands on, and shortly after the club doctor raised his concerns he was given the boot. HOWEVER there is an allegation that some of the players continued to see Dank after he left the club.

Masters was of the view that any cronulla sanctions would more likely be against the players who continued to see Dank rather than against the club. He also gave the example of the club acting decisively in standing down the 4 concerned, and the club getting credit for that.

Not sure how much that of that credit not remains since some were reinstated though,

Paul Gallen isnt being investigated. The Sharks are. If Paul Gallen was found to be taking the same stuff as Essendon players, he cant be charged with being dangerous to himself. They will need to explain that. They will need to explain how taking a cream with a legal amino acid in it is worse than facing a Jennings tackle that leaves your brain bruised.
My main concern is the money. What if the NRL wants to be seen doing "the right thing" like the AFL?
What if they threaten the Sharks by withholding loans & maybe even TV payments?

Masters is right in highlighting the differences in the cases. Ours seems to be more naivety and deception on the part of a few staffers. Essendon's program seems to have been sanctioned through the club. Our club deserves punishment for horrendous governance IMO but is not as culpable as Essendon.

It also seems that players who continued to see Dank will be in more trouble if it can be established that they took banned substances.

The wild card is how the NRL want to manage their image. If they want to appear tough and make an example out of the club they can and we will be in trouble. It would depend on how they managed a fine. It would likely be a withholding of grant money rather than a payment made from Cronulla to the NRL. If this left the club in a precarious financial position, it could approach the development partners renegotiate the development deal arrangement. They could seek an upfront cash injection and forgo some of the percentage deal at the backend. Either way there should be options to maintain solvency.

The whole development may be under a cloud if we can't afford to refurbish the club as the retail sector is built.

With money going out the door to fines / lawyers & less coming in with drop off in sponsorship, I'm not sure we are going to be able to come up with that cash?

Is that right or am I missing something?
