Excitement Level for 2017?

Got a lot of respect for Gag's decision to knock back Browns offer to leave, just hope it inspires him to lift his game and show he doesn't need a great team around him to shine.

It doesn't really surprise me about Gags, to be honest. The bloke has never signaled anything other than a love for the club and town in the media or on the field. I don't know why his effort gets questioned - week in, week out he seemed to give more of a shit than most over the past few years. I hope he stays to be a part of any success we have, it would be unjust if he slogged through the shit only to leave before we go well.

Brown just giving him the heads up re his next contract offer. Don't expect much. Can't blame him really. He was given a motza. Just like so many others. It's now all up to him to prove his value in 2017. If he fixes his defence he'll be rewarded.

Only a couple of over paid 'stars' left on the books now. Brown has done a magnificent job cleaning the place out and attempting address the dire cap situation.

Same can be said abut Korbin Sims and was said about Tariq.
In the end the performance on field will be the crunch.
Gags needs support around him to get the best out of him. Hopefully we can do that.
Korbin needs to really lift it up.
I'd like nothing more than for both of these guys to really step it up but somehow I think there is some writing on the wall with end of contracts coming up and who we have signed and are looking at.

Was it? I would say the opposite for both of them. All the Sims seem to drift in and out of matches, really.

Korbin has definitely shown a love of Newcastle. Great association with club-mates early on and rated Alex as a very close friend.
He's also put it in at times but has seemed to lose his desire to perform since the Alex incident.
Gags has shown an effort but his performance has been way under par for a very long time.
At this stage, Gags is a financial liability.
Effort and love of the club means nothing unless you actually perform.
Gags and Korbin are in the same boat. They'd both realise more elsewhere. Time to move on for both of them.

Gagai would be a star on the wing for the Broncos at 120k.
most rep players would look pretty bloody ordinary in a Knights team of the last couple of years. Gagai would be a superstar of the game in almost any other side in the NRL . We are lucky to have him, champion player and its seems an even better bloke. Better judges than anyone on this forum obviously hold his talent in high regard.

Both Gags and Sims would be a huge loss. Sims is about to hit his prime for a forward. Hard to fly like an eagle when ur surrounded by turkeys. With some quality players around them they will shine

the knights forum is hilarious

everyone going on about how much of a star gagai is now and how he's a champion player and bloke

... all because an article came out where he said he wants to stay with us

Not me, I am still astounded he got selected for QLD at all. He has been a liability for the vast majority of last year.

I do think he would shine in a team that has a lot more class than the knights do atm. Hopefully once we get ourselves turned around, and we are not such a cluster falk across the park we can see better performances from him.

In any other team, any, he'd be playing on the wing. Out there his biggest issues aren't so much of a problem and his talents can shine

Unfortunately he plays centre for us where his shit defence is a huge liability

Outside of our club, I'm not even convinced on Gagai as a top line winger. He doesn't have the speed, I'm not sure he has the freakish finishing ability of other top wingers and what's he like under the high ball? He'd be a winger in our team because he isn't a fullback, he struggles to defend in the centres and his only competition on the wing last season was Ross, Dennis, Mamo and Elliott.

Hopefully next year if he remains in the centres, we have a good run with injuries and he can develop a partnership with his winger and inside defender. It can't help when you have to defend next to two different guys each week.

Fact is he proved his worth on the wing in his Origin games

People can bang on about it being easy in a team like Qld but the fact remains he made tackles, defused bombs and ran strongly out of their end. He didn't take any missteps from what I saw. Did it all with a quad injury too
