Are you saying my daughter cannot play 1st grade, because you want Melbourne storm to have their own reserve grade side?
PR you are sinking to a new level of low
yes thats exactly what Im saying lol
If ever there was a n opportunity to try conferences its with the womens game and make it less travel cost and imposition on part time players.

He’s so focussed on the negative he can’t see the obvious benefits. The expansion of womens football will bring in more $ and media interest. It will lift the quality of players for the next World Cup and entice greater female participation. There are no negatives.

Its strange we cant afford a national reserve grade yet we think running a national womens comp is a good idea??

Not strange at all. The NRLW generates revenue for the NRL and as its a shorter comp, it loses the clubs less money than running a reserve grade team

May go straight to 10 teams

Well that's a terrible idea.

It'd be a great way to make sure that there're a few teams at the bottom of the table that lose all their games except the ones against each other.

Good for them, doesn't change the fact that risking overextending themselves when building a new competition from scratch is a terrible idea.

So as of three weeks ago, the Sharks, North QLD, Rabbitohs, Tigers, and Canberra have all submitted their applications for the 2023 NRLW season; with rumours that the Panthers, Storm and Warriors are interested down the track.... (probably some journo's research assistant who has been trawling these blogs).

Abdo has stated that "There is nothing stopping us thinking differently about where women’s clubs may be situated beyond an NRL club licence." and "The Commission is focussed on building the women’s game from the bottom up".

Going off the current applications and reading into Abdo's comments (as politically non-committal as they are.) that they will try to be more strategic about club placement (ie. not over-saturating Sydney); then the applications that make the most sense would the Nth QLD and Canberra to bring those markets/talent pools into the fray.

There is a hint there that they would look to establish in areas without NRL clubs; and whilst the idea is good and could lead to at least one truly national rugby league comp; I don't see that happening as it would take a monumental amount of money for a comp or club to fund for what is still a fledgling competition.

Hints that the ARLC are looking go ahead with expediting the NRLW expansion to 10 teams in 2023 instead of the 8 previously outlaid in their plans…… but those close to the competition are concerned that it will be a bad idea for women’s pathways.

NRL again missing opportunity to redesign a comp to avoid over saturation in Sydney. Should have gone with 4 region sydney womens club being fed by relevant TS womens nrl club aligned teams. Could have them done same in brisbane with north and south brisbane teams and same in nz.

sydney north
manly, eels, knights

sydney south
souths, dragons, sharks

sydney west
panthers, tigers, bulldogs

sydney city
roosters, bears

brisbane north
broncos, dolphins, devils

brisbane south
Gold Coast, jets, tigers, seagulls

thats 8 teams then 4-6 more. Melbourne, Canberra, nq. PNG, perth, central queensland

Not sure why bears would be city, when theres already a north in their name, but i get what you mean, realistically, youd have it better if it was
Syd north
Bears, manly, roosters
Syd South
Souths, sharks, dragons
Syd west
Parra, tigers, bulldogs
Leave Penrith and Newcastle stand alone
Add the rest you mentioned Canberra Melbourne, NewZealand, plus the 4 Qlds,
That makes 12 and can ultimately add areas of Perth and PNG to follow...
Dolphins would be able to represent lower CQ, and the Gold stars would represent northern CQ

What bids missed out in the nrlw? Souths? Who else?
Penrith, but they've planning for 2024 to include a women's team... souths is oustounding tho, they've been one of the clubs who had been championing a womens team from years prior to the start of the NRLW, them and Cronulla, but i can assume that if penrith gets added so to will souths in 2024, or possibly a return of Warriors... or all plus Dolphins.
Which means only storm, bulldogs and manly are the only teams unrepresented

Now that their will be 10 teams in the NRLW in 2023, the commentary has turned to broadcasting…. And more importantly, where does the broadcast of the NRLW fit in the NRL’s already busy scheduling?

According to PK in the telegraph, the NRL isn’t interested in having the NRLW as a stand alone comp later in the year, nor do they want to play the games early on a weekend (pre-noon) or midweek. So how do they promote the NRLW to the broader RL community and satisfy broadcasters with content that doesn’t clash with other, more popular content (eg. the men’s game)?

It’s going to be an interesting game of negotiation Tetris for the NRL and the broadcasters next year. Maybe someone here can provide a better solution.

I’d suggest the solution is not to worry about showing every game on tv. Maybe show one on a Monday night (game of the week) and maybe Saturday and Sunday morning so broadcast three games a week? There’s no way there’s a period of time you could show a proper full season of games. Nrl covers March-Oct, internationals (lol) Oct-dec.

only other period would be jan-apr but you wouldn’t fit a full season in 4 months once comp is at 18 nrlw clubs.

What if they sold the NRLW rights separately to one of the other FTA channels? Options to have both on. The NFL splits across multiple channels and is works (albeit that there are double the number of teams).

Nrl won’t create competition with its main tv partners. Not to mention no one’s watching nrlw if nrl games are on at same time.

I suppose given the ladies are still only semi pro the other option could be a shorter season so maybe only play the other teams once with a top 5 playoff. that would mean by time at 18 teams season could be 5 months long and played jan-may?
