I'd give him one last chance on the wing (Toopi), because he did show some good touch on attack, and the ability to get through the line isn't something we have a lot of out wide. It might send a signal to him that the next stop is Bartercard with his mate Francis back there to try and regain some confidence. I haven't given Meli the benefit of the doubt because he hasn't offered anything in attack.
Misi Taulapapa and Rowan Baxter will be chomping at the bit to take their place. Baxter is going awesome in Bartercard from all reports, as well as Robinson Godfrey. All three of those loads will be hoping Kemp does the right thing with Meli, and eventually Toopi.
I'd expect to see Mannering in the centres this week. As far as not purchasing outsiders, I'd say with Jones going they'll try and get a half/five eighth, and a center, and with Guttenbeil and Betham probably in their last season at Ericsson a good backrower. I'd suggest though, in fairness to this year's recruitment that there is certainly enough talent outwide coming through locally with Baxter, Vuna, Taulapapa, Godfrey and another young star Marvin Filipo all capable enough.
The one positive thing perhaps is that we may be able to field a decent halves combo from what we already have - if they put Hohaia to 7. He's not a five eighth, he thrives on being the primary organiser. He did it well in the second half. Put Fien to five eighth where I think he'll be suited well.
