What he doesn't have is a Paul Scholes feeding his 20 goal a year striker's.

so splashes 60m on dimaria when they already have mata, goes and splashes 30m on herrera when they already have failoony, and play fellaini as a 20 goal striker instead.

this bloke is a genius. his club has made no progress, they have no identity, you have no idea how they will line up for their next match. if he didn't have a CV he'd be sacked already,

There's no doubt he's very successful, but even then, the bulk of his achievements on his CV are 15+ years ago. Any half decent manager can win domestic trophies with Bayern. His eredivise with AZ is the only achievement that turns my head in the last 15 years.

As good as Di Maria is, on his day he's no Paul Scholes. Either is Mata. They lack the identity that SAF gave them and they lack heart. That's on the manager for sure, but they're rebuilding and I can see them challenging for the league again within 2 years with the right investments.

He has enough individual attacking talent to supply goals, he just can't get them to operate as a cohesive team, and they instead bomb it up to Fellini and hope he'll either score a header or provide a rebound. That's where Falcao could have really come in handy against arsenal if they insist on playing that way for the time being. But these players are finding it difficult to play to LVG's Ajax/Barcelona possession philosophy. It's totally different to the man utd identity, ie playing fast, using width, taking risks. That style would probably give them a lot more freedom to express themselves. Alex ferguson would absolutely drool over having players like Di Maria, He's totally made for the typical United style of play. So like Collymore said, either LVG needs to change his style to something more familiar for United, or the United fans need to settle for a new style. LVG seems like a really stubborn guy, but so would United fans who have seen so much success and entertainment with the fergie way.
You lost me there.. that bloke has the tactical nous of a peanut.

You may be right, but it had a lot more to do with identity and acceptance, rather than specific tactics. It's obvious that LVG is trying to introduce a different style to what's already been there for the last 20 odd years, yet currently it's not working, and you see the frustration of United fans when you hear them cry 'attack attack attack' all the time. So LVG either needs to go back to what's always worked for United, or United fans need to be patient and see if it eventually all falls into place. I don't think having a whole stadium of fans always being at odds with how you're playing is healthy.

Yet as it stands United are 4th in the league, above Liverpool and Spurs and only 5 points behind second place City...

Imagine when they work out what they are doing. ;-)

Collymore knows nothing. Don't even read it. Savage is the other major clueless guy. Waste of time.

Falcao is rubbish. People keep saying he should have come on like he has done anything to warrant that.

Sir Alex had many styles, the early tactics of flying wingers was replaced with Beckham. Then by the end we had a much slower game suited to Europe. The last year we won the league it was very boring.

He wants to play a game our players are not suited to. Hence a few will be leaving.
I don't like Fellaini up front. He is a good option to have off the bench. Nothing more.

Agreed you're playing crap and still 4th. A few pieces and a full offseason and you'll be challenging again. A team in transition.

Thing is united can buy whoever they want so them becoming a powerhouse again will never be too far away. Was always going to take them a few Transfer Windows to sort it out, just that LVG seems to have slowed it down imo.

Definitly need to get an identity about them tho, seriously look like they don't know each other out on the pitch sometimes.

Great effort while it lasted

Something that has been over looked. We are tied with Man U for the most FA cups (11). We win this one and we have the record alone.
