That reminds me of another early 80’s musical...definitely cult stuff..

They play this every year, New Year’s Day arvo... pretty sure it’s channel 7... and I’ve got no idea of the theory of why but anyway...

Its quite funny both Xanadu and Can't Stop The Music were the original reason the Golden Raspberry awards came about .

Allan Carr wanted Olivia Newton John to star in Cant Stop The Music and he reckoned she owed him after giving her such a great role as Sandy in Grease, Olivia signed on for Xanadu instead and it is alleged that Carr never spoke to Olivia after that.

American publicistJohn J. B. Wilson traditionally held potluck parties at his home in Hollywood on the night of the Academy Awards.[2] In 1981, after the 53rd Academy Awards had completed for the evening, Wilson invited friends to give random award presentations in his living room.[2][3] Wilson decided to hold the event, after seeing a 99-cent double feature of Can't Stop the Music and Xanadu.[4] He gave attendees ballots to vote on the worst.[4] Wilson stood at a podium made of cardboard in a tacky tuxedo, with a foam ball attached to a broomstick as a fake microphone, and announced Can't Stop the Music as the first Golden Raspberry Award Winner for Worst Picture.[4][5] The impromptu ceremony was a success and the following week a press release about his event was picked up by a few local newspapers, including a mention in the Los Angeles Daily News with the headline: "Take These Envelopes, Please".[2][3][5]

Approximately three dozen people came to the 1st Golden Raspberry Awards.[5] The 2nd Golden Raspberry Awards had double the attendance, and the 3rd awards ceremony had doubled that number.[5] By the 4th Golden Raspberry Awards ceremony, CNN and two major wire services covered the event.[2] "We finally figured out you couldn't compete with the Oscars on Oscar night, but if you went the night before, when the press from all over the world are here and they are looking for something to do, it could well catch on," Wilson told BBC News

Love the scene with the butler on the stair case then the closing scene with Karl Malden, the look on her face when the car is about to drive off is priceless, great acting without saying a word.

Even though he didn't direct it only wrote it, this is my favourite Tarantino movie. I've actually got a very cool 15 foot long vinyl banner that they hung outside cinemas to promote the film.

Don't watch the Tarantino cut of this movie. It's split up like Pulp Fiction and has a different ending. Glad they let someone else do it.

For me this is one movie I can watch over and over and never get bored. Just the right amount of everything and some of the best scenes of all time.

Another I can watch over and over is Copland. That was a perfect movie for Stallone.

Others I rewatch a lot cause ultimately it's movies you have watched over 20 times and still ain't bored of and you go to especially when you have had a bit to drink and know you will have fun with a rewatch.

The perfect host. Just creepy as with lovely twists.
Kingpin - Who knew a movie about 10 pin bowling could be so good.
A very Harold & Kumar Christmas - Best of the 3 by far.
Oldboy (Korean version) - Just so dark.
Kung Fu Hustle - Don't watch the redubbed version. The feel is so much different with subtitles.
Grosse Pointe Blank - John Cusack just playing himself so well as a hitman with morality issues.
Get THe Gringo - Mel Gibson is the perfect script for him. Right mix of comedy and action.
Duel - Spielburgs first movie - If you haven't watched this. Don't be put off by the age. It's tremendous.
District 9 - Another great mix of comedy and action.
The departed - So many twists and turns. Not quite as good as the Korean trilogy it's based off. But still damn good and I'm better off having a 2hr version vs a 6hr version.
Bloodsport - So bad, yet so good. Just great action and stupid plot.
American Beauty - Probably cause I'm older, I just so relate to Kevin Spaceys character at times.
Amelie - French movie that I still have no idea of what it's all about, but it makes you just feel so different to any other movie you will ever watch.
22 Jump street - I love a movie that just takes the piss out of itself. Best credits scene ever.
The devils rejects - 2nd in the trilogy (Though I like to think only the first 2 movies exist). Well conceived.
Evil Dead 2 - For me this is just so funny. Worst acting ever.
Hobo with a shotgun - Ruter Hauer in a movie that just takes everything bad about 80's horror and wraps itself into one movie.


I just watched The FInal Girls the other night - I can already see this will be a movie I will be adding to the above list.

You've all listed a lot of films I could include like Jaws, Mad Max, The Big Lebowski etc so I'll list some you might not have seen by way of recommendation.

Badlands 1973 - Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek. Tale of two young lovers / lunatics who go on a killing spree across the mid-west USofA. Based on a true story. This is one of the best films I've ever seen. The photography is amazing ( like all Terence Malick films ) and some of the dialog priceless like Kit's final words. Great music too. My user name kit ( I used on a few film forums also ) is stolen from this film, not that I'm a crazed killer or anything.

Ichi, The Killer ( aka " Koroshiya 1" ) 2001 Japan - Hitman, horror, Slasher, Black Comedy, psycho madness from Japan. It's insane, you'll love it. If you liked Battle Royale or the original Oldboy you'll love this.

A Bittersweet Life ( " Dalkomhan insaeng " ) 2005 South Korea.
Gangster / revenge flick from South Korea, ultra cool and the violence is spectacular. I suspect a lot of US films borrowed heavily from this film but none came close. It's a bit like John Wick only with good acting, an actual storyline, and some real style.

The Maltese Falcon 1941, If you've never sat down and watched an old black and white Film Noir ( or gangster flick ) or never watched a Humphrey Bogart film then you should give this a shot. Wait for a miserable rainy arvo, draw the curtains, get some popcorn and put this on to see what real style and film making used to be. A great cast from the past with Bogie as Sam Spade, Private eye, going after the crooks that killed his partner.

The Raid : Redemption 2011 Indonesia. Mostly this is just martial arts and gun porn but really, really well done. It leaves US attempts to copy, like the Wick flicks in it's dust. If you like Ong Bak you'll love this. It's sub titled but you'll be too busy watching the non-stop action to worry about that.

Lone Wolf and Cub : Baby Cart to Hell 1972 Japan. I love Samurai flicks and I could have chosen any of a 100 films to suggest but the Lone Wolf films are really fun to watch. There's 6 or more in the series. A Ronin ( Samurai with no Master ) travels around with his son in a pimped up baby cart and takes on all comers. Lots of action and a few lols.

Tokyo Drifter - Very cool 60's Japanese hardboiled Yakuza flicks - love em.
Outlander 2008 - sci-fi meets Viking flick - underrated classic sci-fi, great acting, great story, great monster and great action, just add popcorn. Predators 2010 also fits this bill.

Aussie flicks :
The Year My Voice Broke 1987 - great little Aussie film with Noah Taylor growing up in country Aus in the 60's. Really well written and acted. Some good laughs too.
Jack Irish: Bad Debts 2012. They've made 3 movies and 2 mini series of Jack Irish so far and they're all fantastic. Guy Pearce is perfect as Jack Irish the reluctant but very persistent hero. They're on Netflix, check them out. They're making more which I can't wait to watch.
Smiley Gets A Gun 1958, about as aussie as it gets. Watch it, you'll be flabbergasted.

Outstanding selection! I remember seeing Shogun Assassin back in the early 80s and then being super amped when I found out it was actually made up of the first 2 films in a series of six. I had to wait a while before I was able to get all of them from Japan.

Three Chuck Norris movies that are a must watch, Lone Wolf McQuade, Code of Silence and the Octagon. Love all Chuck’s work but these three are awesome.
