Albums I bought on a whim? in 2006

Comalies - Lacuna Coil
Supernature - Goldfrapp

I had barely heard of these artists but now I became fans of them. My taste in music is now in the 'I like female leadsingers category', complemented by several other albums with chicks I prefer them to male voices. But of course its the music that matters ;-)

Not sure I'd call Terror hardcore, though. Kick-arse band though. "One With The Underdogs" is a great song.

Another album I just picked up and loved was Versus The Mirror's "Home".

PJ Harvey - Stories from the city, stories from the sea

I used to think PJ was just angry dyke music, but man does she rock. Didn't like "Uh huh her" as much...

"Stories..." is such a beautiful album. Her early stuff (read Rid of Me, To Bring You My Love) scared the sh*t out of me...but this was just stunning. "This Mess We're In" is one of my fave songs ever - god PJ's and Thom Yorke's voices were made for a duet together.

"Uh Huh Her" was a grower but it is pretty good. It took a bit of listening (I listened a few times, left it for a month or so and went back) but I eventually got there. Nowhere near the album "Stories..." is tho.

Franz Ferdinand.
I bought OutKast's Love Below at Sanity for $30, and it was marked 2 for $35, so I tohught I'd try this Franz Ferdinand caper, without having heard a single song. One of the best purchases I have made.

i heard a song in my local recod store last week by a band called Little Barrie, the album is called Stand Your Ground
i bought it about an hour ago and have just finished playing it what an awesome album
it is all Roots Based Rock n Roll with a nice Blues-ish thread running through it

what a pleasant surprise this is my second commercial album in thirty years.......oh no i hope i am not going to turn into a commercial album geek

!!! - Myth Takes is great. You should get their previous albums too mate - quite good stuff.

Little Barrie are quite good too. Don't own any of the albums but they get a fair bit of airplay on JJJ. Go looking for their previous album too.

Last night I heard the new Wilco album. I LOVE Yankee Hotel Foxtrot but my love fell out with them a bit with A Ghost Is Born. Well...Sky Blue Sky is just divine. So so so different to anything they have released previously - almost Elliott Smith-like in places. It will be this year's "Seachange".

The previous album is called "We Are Little Barrie" - source out "Burned Out" and "Free Salute" for the tracks JJJ played - quite good.
