I just want to know when a club is going to come out and tell a player "You have a contract here for x years. You will be expected to play (and earn a very good wage) for x years. Pursue your career in union, AFL, Chess or Formula 1 at the conclusion of your final year."

Broncos are doing that with Josh Hoffman apparently. Won't give a release to join Canterbury.

Fair point newman but personally I think its great business from souths. He spends a lot of time on the sidlelines injured or suspended and If the reported 1million transfer fee is correct that will go along way to finishing of the deal with burrito.

Great move by souths.

Transfer fee makes no difference. The money is compensation, it doesn't go into the cap. They can still only pay Fifita what Burgess is on plus whatever they free up or have left over in the cap which can not possibly be a lot of money one would think.

I'm thinking of getting my balls back out on the line on this.

Here, here. May as well only have 1 year deals the way this has all become.

If Fifita goes, he goes. Life as a Sharks supporter will go on. We should be used to this type of disappointment by now. We get plenty of practice.

Next thing will be buy out clauses or minimum release fees. Surprised no one has done it already.

Good way for clubs to make money maybe even have transfer fees for players who have been developed by a club.

It might still be around but a few years ago if you weren't a local Jnr the nrl club had to pay a fee to your Jnr club to sign you up for SG Ball. It stopped a few guys getting clubs at the last minute so maybe they canned it.

Dragons have reportedly offered Fifita 750k a year for 5 years.

@RugbyLeagueNews: St George Illawarra Dragons have offered Sharks, NSW & Australian prop Andrew Fifita a 5 year deal worth $750k a year. #NRL

That a fair whack but he would be going to a club Dragons where there coach could be gone, and he would be carrying the team.

But it is a motza

and he would be carrying the team.

He'd have the pressure of all their knob supporters who now worship Dugan, as they finally have a player with skill (& class).

That Dugan worship is sickening I reckon, even if it is a bit of a joke. The guy is a tool & I don't want him playing for the blues because him & his mate Fergo should have their papers stamped "never again " after last year's fiasco when we were on a roll. All fell apart after that!

Who is that bloke that went to the West Tiges again. The bloke from the Storm. They paid a squillion for him on a long term contract.

Gee that went well too.

(and I do know his name by the way)
