First coach sacking 2023?

Des is joining in 2024? who is taking over for the rest of 2023?

No word as yet from the Titans. Nothing in any of its press statements mentioning the rest of this season.

Edit - Though Fox Sports are reporting "Hasler will now take over for the rest of the season and beyong, having been out of the game since his sacking in the wake of the Sea Eagles pride jersey saga."

From: https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...r/news-story/732fc94a1e132a4b0892cdf0720c7bfb

and yes the article does say "beyong" - its not my typo.

Ok Mal. I’m still not sure what Mal was doing there anyway other than holding a clipboard to look busy.

I thought Holbrook would see out the season tbh. Only so many spectacular second half collapses they could tolerate I guess.

At least Hasler feels like an upgrade at coach, not throwing darts blindly hoping for the best.

Hopefully they have a succession plan as well for when Hasler leaves.

Mal Meninga ain't happy:

Asked whether he imagined that Ben Hunt would join the club, Meninga said he didn’t know.

“I have no idea - I feel ostracised a little bit,” he said.

“I’ve got a bit of thinking to do about what I do in the future - I don’t envisage being part of the club moving forward.”
I'd say that quote from Mal has decided his future no matter how much thinking he does. Titans should be changing the locks on his office door as I type.

I'm surprised Baldbrook lasted this long but also surprised they sacked him immediately. Like they've put up with him having no idea this long? I know the GC is where sporting franchises go to die but he's never really looked like he knew how to get any more out of them than he has.

Did he have any other years on his contract? Maybe he's pulled the pin when told he wasn't being renewed.

According to Weidler the board bailed him up around 9:30 this morning and told him he's getting sacked. I think he was under contract until the end of 2024 or 2025 off the top of my head.

No info on the length of Hasler's contract or who is the current coach of the Gold Coast Titans?

Differing reports that Hasler may come in straight away and Jim Lenihan will be the interim.

Lenihan being interim coach seems to have the most legs.

I don't think Holbrook has been that bad but you wouldn't pass up a chance to grab a top tier coach. Hasler is one of those coaches that can get it right and it pays dividends or it just goes very poorly.

I feel there is a shift in NRL coaching where the older heads are a step behind whereas the younger coaches embrace the changes in culture, the game and the need to adapt to modern training and player management systems.

You obviously don't watch us closely. Holbrook couldn't stop water coming out of a tap. The defensive line speed and structures have been abhorrent during his whole tenure.

Mal was doing nothing lets be honest. He was there for a bit of PR and promoting the club.

At least now we wont see him predict a Titans v Raiders GF as he has done for the past 5 years.

Hasler is a good signing for the Titans in my opinion, 18 years as a head coach in the NRL and only 4 unsuccessful (Meaning no finals) seasons, 5 grand finals as well.

Don't know how players feel about him but he seems like a guy that people would want to play for. Ben Hunt for example is probably much more likely to sign for a Des Hasler coached team as opposed to a Holbrook coached team.

Good move by the Titans.

Robbo ain't getting booted. Every team will have a dip, I'd rather have a coach who knows how to dig a club out of the mess.

Sacking Robbo would confirm BA and Sticky as being untouchables.

Every team has a dip but Robbo has been pretty bad since winning the grand final in 2019.

2020 - Roosters finish 4th and proceed to be bundled out of the finals in straight sets.

2021 - Struggled to beat the Titans in Round 1 of the finals and then got belted by 36 points the following week to a Manly side that were good but far from the favourites to win the comp.

2022 - Roosters forced to go on a miraculous run to make the finals only to get bundled out in Round 1 of the finals as an undisciplined Roosters outfit get pumped 30-14 by Souths.

2023 - Currently struggling to beat teams destined for the bottom 8. I think the Roosters will sneak into the finals (Probably 7th or 8th) before getting bundled out again in Round 1.

---

With this in mind it might be acceptable for a team that's building but for a Roosters team with many premiership winners in it and star players that would make most other teams starting 17 it is unacceptable.

I don't think they'll get rid of him this year but I think another bad year next year and that might be it for him.
