18 MAN SQUAD TO TRAVEL NORTH
The Newcastle Knights continue their NRL finals campaign in Brisbane on Friday night when they face the 5th placed Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.
A win would guarantee Newcastle a berth in the playoffs following last Saturday’s win against competition favourites, Melbourne, to throw the race to the minor Premiership wide open.
Coach Brian Smith today named an 18 man squad to travel north.
Injured players, Cameron Ciraldo (back), Richard Fa’aoso (concussion), Dan Tolar (back), Zeb Taia (knee) and Danny Wicks (back) all returned to training this week and despite initial fears of a stress fracture in his foot, scans cleared half back, Scott Dureau to resume training late yesterday.
Dureau and five-eighth, Jarrod Mullen will again steer Newcastle around the park with utility, Chris Bailey to start from the Interchange.
After a man of the match performance last week, prop Ben Cross will be out for a repeat performance in Queensland, named in the starting front row beside Matt White and Matt Hilder.
Hilder will wear Number 14 again with Danny Buderus’s jersey retired for the remainder of the regular NRL season, as a tribute to the contribution he made to the Knights and Newcastle during 11 years of first grade football.
The Knights depart for Brisbane this Thursday at 1pm.
