First Grade v Manly

The Manly Sea Eagles today named a strong side to play Newcastle at Brookvale Oval on Sunday.

Centre Terry Hill returns after injury, Brent Kite is back after a week's suspension and star forwards Ben Kennedy and Steve Menzies return from State of Origin duty.

Dropped from the side beaten 44-6 by South Sydney are centre Paul Stephenson and replacement forward Jim Curtis.

Ashley Alberts retains a centre spot after a bright debut against Souths.
The Manly NRL side to play the Knights is: Brett Stewart, Scott Donald, Terry Hill, Ashley Alberts, Chris Hicks, Michael Witt, Michael Monaghan (c), Jason King, Chad Randall, Brent Kite, Steve Menzies, Anthony Watmough, Ben Kennedy.
Replacements: Phil Moorwood, Sam Harris, Shayne Dunley, Luke Williamson, Mark Bryant (one to be omitted).

That's a damn good Manly side, however there bench does show a lack of depth.

If they copped a few injuries in coming weeks they could really struggle.

I think Hages is now taking the p*ss out of the fans with this team.

Last week was the worse backline in the clubs history and this isn't much better.

I now dream about the days when the club had a backline full of stars now its just a backline full of s**t.

Absolutely. I can understand if it is injuries that stop us naming a quality backline. The problem is, there is nothing wrong with our available backline...... we (read: the coach) just choose to select dud players.

The omission of Mullen is a disgrace..... nothing short. The kid can play, and is performing well for a newbie. His kicking game has been better than Kurt Gidley and Andrew Johns combined (those who have seen all our games will agree, I'd suggest) and yet he can't get the gig. There's no suggestion that Kurt Gidley isn't a first grader -- Kurt is a first-choice selection..... just not at 5/8th. Kurt does a mountain of tackling, and is pretty evasive one on one -- which indicates to me that he'd make a better Lock, Centre or Fullback. The experiment has gone on long enough -- he isn't a playmaker, Mullen is.

As for the continued selection of chronic pedestrian Craig Hall, serial speed-bump Carmont and Pot-Plant Quinn -- who knows? I throw my hands up in disgust at this team. There's nothing wrong with the personnel, they're just picking the wrong blokes.

Poor Salkeld, Spiteri, Hinton and co. I don't blame Michael Ennis, BK and Tahu for leaving -- they were smart.

Sam Harris, Shayne Dunley, Luke Williamson .............I reckon there'd be a couple of Knights supporters right now that would like those 3 in their starting lineup

No worries....a fair swap, you give us back our premiership you stole in the last 30 seconds in 1997 and you can have 'em :p ;-)

Stay away from our trophy cabinet chileman.

-Most knights supporters on here would rather be impaled then have that happen!
