The ones we should really be pissed off about are guys like SST. I mean that kid has been an absolute beast this year, one of the best forwards in the comp forget about rookies (even though he doesn't qualify). He was on our books two years ago. That's unforgivable.

Is Bromwich a miss? In theory of course he is, we probably feel like every NZ-born and raised player is, even if we know there's no way we can keep them all and it's not completely our nursery. But a) we can't sign up every overweight talented kid in NZ or we'd have no money to pay the electricity bill b) there's every chance he wouldn't have made it in our system. That's an indictment on our system and the fact that these kids need to go overseas outside their comfort zone to get the best of themselves sometimes, and definitely into an environment like Melbourne.

What we should be pissed off about is that Ben might be the only forward we've brought through the juniors that has stuck around and contributed over a decent period of time. One, since the 20s started in 2008. From a country that is supposed to have a surfeit of big, powerful, talented forwards. That's piss poor.

Matai was a big miss for the Warriors IMO, wasn't rated so headed over to Qld to give it a crack

I personally do think there is an issue with how they bring some of these guys through to the NRL and handle them when they get there. Hurrell probably the best current example, imagine the type of player he would be if he came thru a Melbourne, Manly, Roosters or Souths system

If Hurrell had gone thru the Melbourne system, he'd either be an outstanding first grader by now, or he would have been told to look for another club. You don't play regular first grade there if you don't work your guts out, week after week.

I agree we can't, but why do we keep signing up the wrong ones?

I'm glad the Warriors didn't get Matai - he's one of my least favourite players, I can't stand how he always played his best performances for his club and went missing/constantly gave away penalties/didn't give a shit when playing for the Kiwis. The guy is an injury ridden thug, and he would have spent a lot more time on the sidelines facing the judiciary as a Warrior than as a Manly player.
