Nulla one of the things Fisk said was that he couldn't work with Irvine. He got on well with the board but Irvine was a different proposition.

Happy with the stability of the club and the turnaround that has taken place.

He said things were not as bad as some people had tried to make out.

He said he formed a pact with Sticky when he came over... Sticky to coach he will look after his side of it.

He said Sticky was shellshocked to learn that Brown had been approached considering he had 2 years left to run.

Fisk said that a lot will happen and a lot will be revealled in the next 48hrs (the AGM) and he was sorry to be leaving as he did want to do another 12months.

Fisk said he was approached by many at the ground last night to reconsider his decision to not take up another 12 month contract.

Basically I think that sums up what he said.

But the main thing apart from all the politics is that he was adamant that the club would survive and that we were stable financially to survive as we are.

Cheers

Well fingers crossed, because an overlying cloud is the huge impairment loss written off in the reports that has not been reliased / produced a report (to be approved) by the members.

They need to be open to gain the confidence of the members.

thanks Quigs for the info.
I've known Damien for some time and trust him to lead us out of the quagmire that we were put into by the previous board.

Irvine came across very well.

Love to know exactly what happened with Brown, as this seems to be the biggest sticking point with Fisk and Stuart.

doesnt real take a genius to work it out though does it pj

frankly did ricky expect no one would be concerned with the demise of the team and would not explore other coaching options

I'm of the opinion that Stuart/Fordham put the rumour out about Brown and it was the first ingredient in the plan to get out of the Sharks. I also think he'll be heading to Brisbane.

If that is what happened then Irvine has left himself open by so strongly saying he had nothing to do with it.

why?

only an idiot would think a club who was in the midst of a record breaking losing streak would not be having a peek at other coaches

and you are no idiot

In the interview Irvine was very clear that the board was unanimous and working very closely together. Everything was discussed and decided upon by the board.

He also said that he was the spokesperson for the board and that neither he nor anyone acting on his behalf had approached Brown, or even Browns representatives (I think he included Browns reps). He was very clear and specific on this.

Now based upon that if someone did approach Brown either Irvine is lying, he has nowhere near the board support he believes he has or at least is espousing or the board does not have as good a control on the happenings in the club that they claim.

So if Brown now came out and said that an approach was made, and I believe he has said the exaxt opposite, imo it would reflect badly on Irvine's honesty and integrity.

Someone is lying about the Brown aspect of things, and in this case I don't think it is the club.

1. companies i have worked for are always talking to competitor employees 'off the record' - it is common practice and will always be denied by necessity by both parties if nothing comes of it

2. i would be alarmed if the club didnt explore other coaching options

3.the peed of the appointment of flannagan makes it obvious that they have already done their ground work

Frenzy.

Really? Why is that?

BTW are you still plugging your mate's business around the forums?

Well there's been rumblings for a while now that things were not as they seemed. No doubt it had been discussed as to suitable replacements. Flano would be hard to beat given he has worked with the squad for the last 4 years and, seemingly, has their respect.

I think the speed of the announcement is also down to the time of year, and the situation the club is in.
By moving quickly it keeps things as stable as you can, and also erases any uncertainty when it comes to player negotiations for next year. It's been widely reported that they are looking at being very active in the player market for next season. Any doubts over coaching would make it nigh on impossible to strengthen the squad.

The more I think about the appointment, the more I like it

Damian Irvine emphatically denied any approach of any kind whatsoever by the board, or a thrid party for the board to Brown, or any third party acting for Brown.

Nathan Brown is on the record of denying any report as well. Now, Brown would lose nothing if he came out and had said he had been approached.

Damian even implored ABC to contact Brown himself for a direct rebuttal as well.

The only one who was cagey on the issue has been Ricky, all reports leaking seem to sugest that Ricky was fuming at being usurped (haha, you heard me, Usurped!! (Obscure Simpsons Reference there). Why can he not come out OR Fordham, and say no, that is not what the issue is????

He claims he is staying on for the rest of the year for the good of the Sharks and players. If that is his genuine motive (and I do believe he cares about his players at least) then why not just shut up shop and keep things behind closed doors. Same with Fisk.

The interview on Sunday had Damien talking about how much stronger the club was etc since 12 months ago, thanked Fisk etc etc. There were no potshots at any of the people involved in this whole thing.

I know Damien personally, as do many here. I believe that he and the board would only ever want what is best for the Cronulla Sharks. No agendas apart from making sure the club is secure and successful. This board is working for nothing. They do are entitled to entitlements which they do not use, pay for their own airfares to away games and tickets to away games to cut costs. No doubt the cost cutting has really irked some people, but its what has to be done sometimes.

There is a lot of innuendo, rumours, heresay etc floating around and things being spread. The AGM is tonight. That is where the truth a d real answers can be found. Those who are critical: TURN UP. QUESTION THEM. Critics are just as important as supporters. Criticism is important, but no point criticising, making judgements etc without all the info.

When I went to collect my season pass etc Fisk was standing at the front desk talking to Graeme Wynne.
It was chaos, I waited for about 20 minutes maybe more for them to bring a box of hats and stuff from storage.
There were people standing around everywhere waiting.
One young girl was working the counter...and was clearly out of her depth.
She needed some help to serve everyone.

If that had been Gow he would have noticed what was going on and fixed it.
Fisk was oblivious.

Really? Why is that?

Call it a hunch. Irvine has denied it. Brown himself has denied it. On the other hand, Ricky called this place and others like it a 'Coward's Castle' when he first came to the Sharks and suggested if you want to know something you should just pick up the phone and call. Shame he didn't follow his own advice and call Nathan Brown when those rumours first festered.

BTW are you still plugging your mate's business around the forums?

Sponsors deserve all the plugs they can get.

How do you know he didn't. Possible he did that and Brown is saying there were no discussions in the press so he doesn't get a name as someone who can't be relied on not to spill everything to the press.

So you are now calling Brown a liar for denying any contact and the Chairman a liar as well for saying the same?

How is answering a question in regards to a rumour everyone has heard as "Spilling" to the press.

Normally when two parties emphatically deny something then unless there is proof otherwise, which there appears to be none, you would have to take their words for it.

I'm not saying I don't take their word for it, but I can also see why they may not be being honest.

If the approach was actually made I could easily see Brown not wanting to admit it. If he did other clubs that he may want to go to may decide he isn't worth approaching if they think he could drop them in it by confirming an approach was made. Imagine the trouble it could cause for the Sharks administration if Brown came out and said that an approach was made and the damage that could also do to Brown.

Look back over the years at the number of coaches and players who have denies approaches were made yet ended up at the clubs a very short time later.

For the record I think that the most likely scenario is that an approach wasn't made by the currect board and they and Brown are telling the truth. But that doesn't mean that is what actually happened.
