Please I am being Serious.

Do you think the Public could stand reading the same Stuff over and over about a team for 3 Weeks Straight if the Make the Grand Final?

Better than having nothing, or quoting jackasses.

I understand that Mark.

I wonder if we would have got more buses from Newie if the game was played during the day, and families weren't going to be getting home around midnight?

The scheduling would have caused less people to turn up because they wouldn't have been able to leave work early enough to make the game in some respects.

A Fair Point and nothing we will ever know for sure. . . Also for next year is not an issue.

But going back to Fitzy's original comments:

Look at sport world-wide, it's all moving toward night time

That's just patently not true.

If he is going to say something, at least get fundamental facts right.

So they should have Qualifying Finals Breakfasts ? Put more Pages in the paper because the are Focusing on 4 teams and not two.

If they are serious about promoting the game they should be looking at focusing on the four teams rather than two. I'm more than happy to read about teams leading up to the finals - each club has a top 25 plus a number of others in their first grade squad. Surely they can get plenty of stories that can help promote the game. Players leaving, retiring, injured..... the stories are there MITS.

Qualifying breakfast is probably going a bit far - the GF breakfast isn't much of a big deal unless you can afford the $500+ a seat anyway.

Get some of the players out doibng some promotions in the shopping centres. A few hours a week isn't going to hurt them.

The NRL spent a sh*tload on designing "new" mascots for the clubs - given most clubs already have at least one maybe that money could have been better spent. Eric the Eel doesn't get used because of his size and lack of movement. Plenty of other clubs don't use theirs.

Sould we then be called the ORL or Oral. Ociania Rugby League.

Then you could See the People in the Island and Papua upset they don't have a team in the ORL.

Maybe the TSRL, Tasman Sea Rugby League. But that may exculde anyone Not near the Tasman Sea like Canberra or Even Us.

Do you have an alternative?

Alternative 1: No NZ team = National Rugby League in Australia
Alternative 2: 2 x NZ teams (Nth and Sth Island) = ANZRL

Personally, I would prefer that we focus on solidifying the comp into a truly national one (yes, Adelaide and Perth teams) and invest the money that has been invested in Melbourne to make it work. We may never get the support that AFL has in those places, but if we try for co-existance with a 10 year plan it may just work.
Once this is done, then look at expanding across the Tasman but maybe look at the RU Super14 model (with less teams, say a Super8) as a round robin/mid-season competition.

This is probably a whole other thread though. :)

I have no Doubt the Stories are there, but again remember today is the Telegraphs "Football" Day, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday these stories will most probably Be there. This Story is what 1 Column Inch and look what it has sparked. . .

Player in Shopping Centres might work. Well not for Brisbane or for the Storm unless we are talking about Shopping Centres there as well then you would have to have the supporting media (B105 or SEN) pumping it as a Meet the Players night/ thing on a Thursday Night would be the Best bet. Then it may be getting a bit to close to this years Friday Game but the Saturday night Scenario works well next year.

Yeah we all know the new Mascots are a flop. But what sort of Cash do you think the could have saved on that this year and what do you think that could "Buy" in media for this weekend?

Why do you need a North and South Island to make it the ANZRL. Actually this could also work on a Sponsorship thing. ANZ proud sponsor of the ANZRL (Actually that works for them as the ANZ is also very big in NZ), But it is a FLA and not a TLA (Five Letter Acronym and not a Three Letter Acronym) and TLA's are very easy to say.

Then again if the Marketing People had been on their game this should be the Telstra Premiership and not the NRL.

And you are right on Trying to get The other States involved. But. . . to do that we are going to need to start showing them the game to get them Hungry enough to have a side. . .

This is why the League need to show at league on FTA in all markets like the AFL.

Just a Question, World Cup Based if I may.

When were the games Held for the WC. What about the WC before that?

I'm sorry MITS but I don't subscribe to the "any publicity is good publicity" bandwagon. It may have generated interest but only amongst people who are already in the sport. Few people without a strong interest would care.

Doesn't just have to be shopping centres..... schools, hospitals, Oprahs couch...... just get them out in the public eye and stop alienating them from the public like our club does.

Does it just have to be for this weekend? There is a Tri-Nations tournament coming up after the Finals series but few would know about it unless they went to the NRL website. The marketing arm of the NRL are very poor in comparision to the other codes.....

Anyway, I dont like Sunday afternoon games, especially at the beginning of the year, cause I get sunburnt on my head, and I have to sit there all afternoon with my arm up to shield the sun. Then I get thirsty and they close the bar just after 1/2 time (I know they do that at night too, but, I dont get so thirsty)

Even better would be, if they could schedule games in after the last race at Cannington on a saturday night - my sporting saturday would be complete.:D

For the group stages:
3pm.
6pm. (which, in a european summer, is still day time)
9pm.

Forget off hand what time the knock out stages kick off at. Maybe 6 and 9.

Wasn't at Korea, so not sure of those times.

Matches for the football world cup are schdeuled for an international tv audience. All the major leagues in Europe, Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England, all heavily schedule their matches for saturday and sunday afternoon.

Cup finals are sunday arvos.

UEFA Cup and Champions League matches are played mid week at night - that scheduling is necessary to enable those competitions to fit in with domestic leagues

On Point one, Yes but those inside the game are massively concerned about it and on a slow news day it is points of view on fixing the problem. I haven't seen the paper but were the any Ads for the Finals or the Like?

On Point Two, Do you know what the Saints or the Dogs are doing this weekend? Are they as bad as our club? If not then you could be projecting the inadequacies of this club on them. . .

On Point Three, the Tri Nations ad is great and I see it at least once a day. I am not sure if it is on Pay or not but I am sure you see it after the 9 news or during the sport or something like that. As to the Ads for the Finals I think they were poorly done as they only bought time during the games and then showed the Dragons Vs Manly ad just before the game kicked off.

Night games are a big hit with fans. The Cowgirls have been playing all or most of their games on Saturday night for quite a few years now and the crowds are always big, and they did that as their crowds numbers for Sunday arvo's were very poor and I don't record them playing too many Sunday arvo games.

There was an ad on the two page spread. After you got past the "Official Newspaper of the Sydney Swans" bullsh*t

On Point Two, Do you know what the Saints or the Dogs are doing this weekend? Are they as bad as our club? If not then you could be projecting the inadequacies of this club on them. . .

I'm not talking about the weekend MITS - in fact I know more of what other clubs are doing through the year than our own. I still think the NRL don't use the best marketing tool they have in the players enough.

On Point Three, the Tri Nations ad is great and I see it at least once a day. And it just highlights the poor attitude that the NRL have when it comes to marketing the game properly. I've seen the Tr-Nations ad but that is about the extent of it. There are some very marketable players they could be using to their advantage right now who aren't playing in the finals series to get the word out as well.

Before I continue this with Colonel.

This is also because of Environmental Factors.

I was up there last week, Trust me you don't want players playing at 3:00 pm up there. It is way to Humid.

Also The Cowboys have the Structure Right as well. Get on the Bus that leaves from the leagues club. Straight to the game in the Middle of No where. Then Back again or Free Busses to the Local Shopping Centre that Sponsor them and puts on Free parking and shuttle busses.

You could also use these same players to help promote the finals series - a series of ads with various players from clubs who aren't involved getting to the game....... there are heaps of possibilities.
