Whoever the new half is i would have thought he needs to be appointed as soon as possible so he can have to whole off season to train with the side & build up a combination with Flanno Jnr or whoever the 5/8 is going to be. If it is correct that Illias has had a medical then i would hope an announcement will be made within the next week. It is Friday tomorrow (their favoured announcement day.If Hunt goes to the Dogs, Sexton may become available.
Patience @SAP58 . I'm pretty sure Flano said in a recent comment that "nothing will happen in the next couple of weeks". We've just got to hope that something IS happening in the background.Whoever the new half is i would have thought he needs to be appointed as soon as possible so he can have to whole off season to train with the side & build up a combination with Flanno Jnr or whoever the 5/8 is going to be. Spot on. Asking for trouble signing up chief playmakers 2 months out before season’s start.Whoever the new half is i would have thought he needs to be appointed as soon as possible so he can have to whole off season to train with the side & build up a combination with Flanno Jnr or whoever the 5/8 is going to be. AD for me.Today is Nov. 21. Ben Hunt moved on just three weeks ago. I know that is a bit more than a year ago in forum time, but really it is just three weeks.
Hunt had to go and I suppose there was no "good" time for him to leave but we couldn't approach players for 2025 before he left bcs we didn't know for sure that he would leave. Now we can be in the market for 2026 and we can also continue to develop juniors, like LKT - and I am sure something will turn up in the next 12 months.
For 2025, however, the market is still fluid at least until Mr Sulks signs for a new club. So it seems Flanno is hoping something is kicked up in the turnover.
But the market for 6 and 7 is not deep: Douehi (my preference), Iliias, Sexton (?), Volkman, Marschke. Who do we want Flannagan to choose from that bunch?
Would you accept Latu Fainu if the tiges tear up his contract?
Anyway, the season begins for us March 8. I expect this half issue will be decided by Dec 8, then we have three months to get some cohesion. Meanwhile, it just is what it is.
Yes, good thinking OT. Just heard Flanno on Sky Sports this morning that he is still looking at signing another half but is biding his time and no names mentioned. Also nothing said about a new middle prop. Just the same news we have heard from him such as the signing of Nathan Lawson from Rugby Sevens. A bit on Gutho - showing leadership and spending time with Sloan, Holmes back at running 3 days a week and will get into other training stuff in a few weeks time. He did say that Cook and some other guys are helping with recruitment in that they would give their views on who we should go for as they know who are good or not as they have played with or against them. What I don’t quite get in all of this fiasco surrounding our halves is the following
Last year we had Hunt and we signed Marschke and would have had Volkman if he wasn’t injured.
If they were part of the answer last year and Hunt is no longer here then why are those 2 not part of the potential answer for this year?
Ok Volkman may have angst but that isn’t anything $$$ won’t fix considering other clubs are supposedly looking at him or maybe he is still ratshit with his shoulder?
I thought Marshke went ok so maybe we were premature in letting him go especially considering Hunt was always going to be let go?
The K F signing imo has probably created difficulties in balancing the squad as he is also a neither nor type player.
I think KF is a better player all round than he is given credit for. Other than that I agree re Volkman and Marshke - ie; why we didn't hang onto them. What I don’t quite get in all of this fiasco surrounding our halves is the following

Yep, 100% Phantom V.In my opinion, I think Flanno needs to put his hand in his pocket and make Atkinson an offer he can’t refuse. He’s been impressive and I think a good long term option for us. I’d even prioritise him over a middle if no one is available and just blood some juniors.
He also brings a cockiness that every half needs IMO. Get it done Flanno!!!
Same here Mojo. As Cussy said elsewhere in the Forum, a halfback like Atkinson might be the Dragon's target for 2026 so in the meantime, have Kyle at 7 and LKT at 5/8th for 2025 and sign another back-up or bring in an up and comer from the lower grades if needed for cover.I think KF is a better player all round than he is given credit for. Other than that I agree re Volkman and Marshke - ie; why we didn't hang onto them.
I have a sneaking suspicion that Flano might really want to give Kyle a serious crack at 7.
Three years at $500k might do the job. From what I have read it doubles what he is on now. I do not think he would be a Sullivan signing.Yep, 100% Phantom V.
His mantra has always been that he wants to instill the attitude that "You have to beat us. We won't beat ourselves."Has anyone thought that the reason why Flanno did not go hard for the front rowers available which are now signed is because he can see something in the juniors he has? AFB was the one he wanted and was most vocal about and lost to the scum Sharks. I think AFB was closer than we thing and then he approached the Sharks in the end and if they said no, would have joined but then ended up accommodating which is sad. Since then he has had discussions with most but not much else.
The character of player he is looking for is I feel more important than their size and these guys simply just don't fit in. He got rid of Hunt and Lomax and is replacing them with guys that will change the culture to make it so much better I feel which I hope transforms into more wins. It's more about mental attitude that skill in sport, and that is where I think Saints were lacking. They put themselves in good positions but at the end it was their mental attitude that lost most games.
