Blood is thicker than water, indeed. There's nothing wrong with nepotism if the beneficiary proves to be competent AND as long as more talented individuals aren't overlooked.
Hey I’m all in on Kyle, we need him to succeed, I reckon he could surprise us.
But it’s been pretty clear to me that it’s always been dad’s intention to have him cemented as our 6/7

I had always thought that he was a good quality halfback at the Sharks and also for the short duration of his time at the rorters .

Of course when Robinson had his eyes on Walker the situation changed and he was unceremoniously punted .
The lad’s confidence was shattered and he was unable to play to his true ability at the Bulldogs because of it . The Dragons rejuvenated him and I believe that he will only get better .

With the right halves partner I am sure that he will have a tremendous season in 2025

What I don’t quite get in all of this fiasco surrounding our halves is the following

Last year we had Hunt and we signed Marschke and would have had Volkman if he wasn’t injured.

If they were part of the answer last year and Hunt is no longer here then why are those 2 not part of the potential answer for this year?

Ok Volkman may have angst but that isn’t anything $$$ won’t fix considering other clubs are supposedly looking at him or maybe he is still ratshit with his shoulder?

I thought Marshke went ok so maybe we were premature in letting him go especially considering Hunt was always going to be let go?

The K F signing imo has probably created difficulties in balancing the squad as he is also a neither nor type player.
Yes one of the common recurring themes among dragons fans is that Marshke went quite well and for the price, represented very good value, even if only as a back-up half. I would liked to have seen more of him.

Looks like he's gone back to Norths, who now have a relationship with the Storm.

Would seem like Flanagan initially thought we would be ok for halves when he let him go. Maybe thought Hunt was staying and still wanted to pick up another quality half now to fight for places and take over from Hunt in 2026. Then Hunt played up again over his contract and the rest is history. Volkman was never coming back to us after last year's fiasco.

Or maybe Flanagan is genuinely confident he'll get a quality half in.

I think Flanagan has generally done a decent job in recruitment, however I'm worried he might've made a mistake here. Time will tell and I hope I'm wrong.

Agree with others on here, he probably wants Kyle to have a crack at 7. We'll see.

There is no way Wishart is coming back to us, might as well fantasise about Cleary, just as much chance.
Why not?

He's at the Storm on $350k for 2025 as a utility. Allegedly the Storm have exercised a club option for 2026, although I'm not sure I've actually seen that confirmed by the club. Either way it won't be on much more $ if it's true.

If the Dragons genuinely go hard for him, offer him $700k, 3 year contract, to star for us in the halves, why wouldn't he be interested in that? The chance to come back home and play in front of his family, friends, and for his own club, to become a legend, and to surf on the beautiful Illawarra beaches again.

For all that, why wouldn't he knock on Bellamy's door and ask him for a release, tell him he's had the offer of a lifetime and he wants to accept it. Bellamy might even understand, and give him a release.

I don't think it's impossible.

Here's a thought. Cook is with us only until end 2026. Then we will have Liddle as hooker for 2027 but no clear back-up. So now Mulheisen is gone, who will be in the pathway?

Ilias has been scheduled in the hooker rotation at Souths. I wonder if he will be brought over to cover #9 as well as being a #7 backstop...until suitable juniors come through the pathways.

There is a young 9 that was brought over from Penrith (?) or somewhere but he won't be ready for years.

Has anyone thought that the reason why Flanno did not go hard for the front rowers available which are now signed is because he can see something in the juniors he has? AFB was the one he wanted and was most vocal about and lost to the scum Sharks. I think AFB was closer than we thing and then he approached the Sharks in the end and if they said no, would have joined but then ended up accommodating which is sad. Since then he has had discussions with most but not much else.

The character of player he is looking for is I feel more important than their size and these guys simply just don't fit in. He got rid of Hunt and Lomax and is replacing them with guys that will change the culture to make it so much better I feel which I hope transforms into more wins. It's more about mental attitude that skill in sport, and that is where I think Saints were lacking. They put themselves in good positions but at the end it was their mental attitude that lost most games.
Heard they are really impressed with LPT.
