Liddle has been great for us and just turned 28 (in October). He has to be part of the puzzle.

I’m ambivalent about this Ilias signing. A pass mark player who so far hasn’t shown much imo. Unfortunately suffered a substantial broken leg injury last year in reserve grade from memory. Now our starting half. OK.

It might not be a popular comment; but Ben Hunt now with Val Holmes, Gutherson , Cook n Liddle in the centre ruck ( speed galore there) and the interesting 7s Union quick player added would be very interesting.

Of course, like most posters I will cheer Lachlan Ilias on and not death ride him. I want him to do very well in the mighty Red V.

For Ilias? At Souths, he was on $500k with the contract finishing end 2025.

South have tipped in for 2025. Don't know how much, but I should think that 2026 would not pay Ilias more than we will pay in 2025 unless he is on incentives.

So at least he is cheapish.

Ilias is where I thought we would end up. I’m nit excited, nor am I worried. He is worth a shot and has heaps of upside. It’s only a 2 year deal, and it’s not on crazy money, so worst case he is in reserve grade, best case he kills it. Perfect age to get a half, more than 50 games in FG, has gone thru good and bad times and should thus be more resilient as long as the injuries stay away.

As previously said, I trust the judgement of Flanno in consultation with Cookie on this one.

If it works out - that's awesome for us. Bottom line is we need someone as a stop-gap until other options come up in future years. It's not huge $.

With Bunt likely going back to the Broncos now, the option of say Sean O'Sullivan falling out of the tree at the Dolphins is probably not going to come to pass (but it might end up helping us fill the prop void though).

Worst case scenario - Ilias totally flops and this time next year we're telling him that unfortunately we don't plan to renew you for 2027, so you'll either be seeing out 2026 in NSW Cup or you're free to explore options in the Super League.

It's make or break for the young fella - and I, along with all our fans, wish him all the best !
