Flanno's New Signings

Ok thanks. Did anything come of the meeting?
Well what we do know is Holmes has been told he will not be offered a new deal by the Cowboys after 2025.
Flanagan more than likely offering him a 3 or 4 year deal from 2025.
We were also chasing Talagi, so the plan is to sign two outside backs.
Not sure who else we are talking to as far as outside backs go, other than Holmes.

we cant afford to miss another target.. we get holmes as a marquee and its much easier for the other guys we r chasing.. for the sake of an extra year id sign him, even if he ends up on the wing at the end.

Holmes would be too old to be targeted by the Bears, but our other targets might be.

I cant re-iterate enough that with our current pulling power, there are no "sure things" that are coming to our club.. in 12 months time .. maybe... we are taking punts on some players.. its just a question of which ones.. the money is there to be spent.

With Lomax going we need to replace him with someone better than another filler.. we need some strike... and what makes Holmes a triple-threat is he covers ctr, goalkicks, and provides backup for a Sloan injury.. we sailed thru this year with basically no cover for all 4 spine positions.. we cant do that again.

We also need a real 7 and 6 and a real Captain that's not a Sook ...... Last night the way Hunt carried on when others made a mistake , he needs to have a good hard look at himself before he starts throwing rocks at everyone else .......

Maybe nrl pundits outside the club can't understand it but us Dragons fans have seen enough. We need him gone and pursue a new fresh direction.

If Moses is considering leaving Eels we should go all out.

I think the plan with what was available is pretty simple

2024 season get some players like Sele, RFM, Luc, Tui etc year one to provide depth and 10-13 wins.

2025 season we have grabbed Cooky already which is a massive signing I feel.

There is no doubt we are trying to shed dead wood on our top30 list.

Attract two more important players ie prop and strike back.

The go hard for a few more players to make an impact to our top17

keep a few very promising emerging players like Couchmens

and importantly Flano was given some incredible juniors ….but to keep them and get them on the list like Tonga, Lui, Halangahu, Latu etc they had to be paid well and some top30 positioning which doesn’t help much short term but what alternative did we have ? We had to get them here and that meant sacrifice at some level ie stacking for the future has a short term cost.

I said ages ago we should've been after Sexton for next year as an upgrade on Kyle because Kyle is simply just not good enough for a team that wants to take that next step. Sexton works his way into first grade, is doing a more than admirable job at 7 at the Dogs, completely outclassed Kyle and Hunt for the second time this season and is being courted by the Broncos. We now won't have a chance at upgrading that position in the short term with a much superior player because you would imagine he'll stay where he is for now and then possibly go to the Broncs a year or two after. Not saying Sexton was the answer to our prayers, but we'd be a much much better team with him in the halves over Flanagan, giving a chance for LKT and Reed to continue their development in lower grades

If we managed to land Cook + Holmes + a <decent forward> I think we are ok to let Hunt go early but we need a few quality players in our roster first.. we need some pulling power.

I've seen a lot of good things in Boyd from the Titans before, he might be a candidate, but I just dont think were at that point yet of taking a punt on fringe halves.. I understand where u r all coming from.. but im looking through Flannos lense.. and it also depends how the rest of this year pans out.. a win next week and we r right back in finals contention.

Huge no to Tannah Boyd, not sure how much you've watched of him, but he is arguably the worst half in the competition. We can't be buying players like that. Sexton, Fogarty, Pezet, Cole all halves that could potentially become available in the not too distant future that would be better buys. I would much rather promote LKT before even considering Tannah Boyd. QLD cup or super league is where he should be

Desperately need quality in the front row. Been saying it for ages. Number one priority over everything else. In the games when we can't get decent field position our front rowers never ever stand up and get us down the other end of the field.
Add to this that the "marquee" man CHunt can never kick us down the other end of the field. Burton has shown him how to do it two games in one season.

Agreed this is the main priority, I thought Sele was having one of his better games before he had to go off as well. Molo didn't provide enough unfortunately, although he was put on to have an impact in attack just before half time, and we kept turning it over during that period meaning he was defending on our own try line rather than being able to produce what he was put on to do. Lawrie - poor. Marchske's long kicking game would've dragged us into that game last night. It would've been a nice counter to Burton's long kicking game, and I think it would've made the contest tighter. That said, even when Hunt put in a good kick, we usually followed it up by inexplicably missing the tackle on the player returning the ball in under 8's fashion, letting them get to the 30 or 40m on play one on multiple occassions

We wont get Sexton (dogs or broncs), Pezet as an Anasta kid also wont be coming here.. Fogarty I would love but again will be rly surprised if Raiders will let him go.. Cole I dunno if hes a man manager or a 6, if indeed penrith want to let him go and ride it all on Talagi?

I've noticed you have really polar views on potential players i.e. 'hard in' or 'hard out', but young halves always end up on the scrap-heap when a side struggle .. they are rejects until another coach picks them up and work to their skills.. and then everyone is shocked (aka Fogarty and Sexton), if we are going to replace Hunt it has to be a man manager rdy to go 'now', cant be a kid.... of all the roles in the team, a 7 I think is the one who has to be experienced.

LKT seems a pure 6 and getting better in cup but I would not be rushing the 19yr old.. I dont think it'll be good for his future or us.. that extra 12mths in nsw cup makes such a difference, but it wont solve our 7 problem anyway (unless its Kyle).
