Flanno's New Signings

So far things are very underwhelming. For 2025 we will have two 1st grade hookers in Liddle & Cook. We have one possible half in young Flanno. We have last years five-eighth in young Flanno unless he goes to half, in which case the alternative is LKT but I'm not convinced he's the goods. We have two possible fullbacks in Sloane with his well-known deficiencies, or Corey Allen returning from injury, and neither of these options fills me with joy. We really need a decent half or five-eighth, a decent back-up half or five-eighth, and a decent Fullback. So I reckon we need Douehi AND Ilias AND Gutho. But both Douehi & Ilias are a risk due to returning from injury, and they're not going to come across for a one year contract - they both have one year contracts already. Which means signing them on for longer contracts with the risk of missing out on Atkinson when his contract comes up.

I hope Flanno knows what he is doing because to me our spine looks like it's getting worse, not better.

Jacob Liddle was in a similar situation when he came over to us from the Tigers. That's all worked out pretty well so far for us. Probably one of our best performers since joining us.

I'm all for signing Adam Douehii at the right price. He's a very solid player when fit. I'd go as far to say that those seven games he did play this past year gave the Tigers a real chance at avoiding the spoon. He was one of their best when he did get out there.
I'm lukewarm on the Douehii rumour but I trust Flanno to slowly get our roster to the right place after the mess he inherited.
Your point about Liddle is a good one - he has put together a good 3 uninterrupted seasons in a row now so sometimes all you need is luck to turn your way.

Also Luke warm as Douehii injuries more substantial than Liddle's but hey, like everyone else, I trust in Flanno.

All Dragon rumours revolving around backline, so I'm quite confident Flanno will deliver. It's the front row that concerns me. If we succeed recruiting a decent spine, they must be given the yardage to deliver.

The more I read about Terrell May the more I reckon we should go hard for his services. In 2024 we relied on a 4 forward bench.
2025 see's us with a specialist Hooker on the bench then 3 forwards.

On field Terrel is a quality front rower who plays 80 minutes

GOLD!

I'm concerned about his surname and all that that brings but we really need an elite front rower.

Very understandable and there is much in our society that reinforces those gut feelings
"The apple doesn't fall far from the tree"
"The sins of the Father"
"Tarred with the same brush"
But Terrell doesn't seem to be 'cut from the same cloth' as his brothers even though he obviously loves them.
Angus Crichton has publicly defended Terrel's off-field behaviour and I especially noted that Terrell does not drink alcohol.
As an individual, and not a generic 'May' brother, he deserves respect as a clean skin (I hope)

Why not wait till the dust settles? I don’t understand what anyone can get out of point in time recruitment analysis

Seems like we specialise in only targeting players that have had an ACL or other knee problems and cross our fingers they do not reoccur.
Ridiculous statement. Please name ALL the players we have been confirmed to be targeting or we have signed recently with pre-existing ACL or other knee problems and then tell me how that corresponds with your statement that we "specialise" in targeting such players.....

I was being sarcastic. But to name a few in recent years that we have signed or targeted: Bird, McCullough, Gutho, Welsh, Ilias.

Now you will say some are not confirmed targets and just paper talk or rumours. Agree with that, but rarely due you get clubs that say "player X" is a confirmed target.

When did Gutho do an ACL??

Three year contracts and options are strictly for highly desirable players that there is competition to get. No other club wants Ilias. This kind of thing is how clubs screw up their succession planning.
It’s a 2 year contract I proposed. Club has option for 3rd year in case he excels.

The earlier and longer Flanno gets with new recruits during the off-season training program the better. An early arrival also helps new players to the club, get to know their teammates and the way they play the game.

Wayne seems quite ok with having Latrell in his team, who walked, let's say, a very similar "line".......just wasn't caught in the act by police.......
It's interesting how much leeway the marquee players get......
getting hammered or hammering someone with a hammer, which is the bigger problem?.
