The Panthers finished 14th. :|

But we were in the running for the finals... but then a close loss up in Brisbane in Round 18 killed us (17-12).

If only Girdler held on to that flat pass from Fittler. He had a clear run to the line...

no something talking up the raiders prospects would fall under worst post ever category

and let me guess, talking up the tigers chances is perfectly fine, despite them being in almost the same situation as canberra are in?
your just as stupid as preniers

The difference between the Raiders and the Tigers with seaons 2004 was very little, agreed.

The difference in 2005 will be huge, why? Because the Tigers have what the Raiders don't............POTENTIAL!!!

Benji Marshall, Bronson Harrison, Liam Fulton etc, etc,....ie, kids with futures. You got Lincoln Withers, a Tigers reject.

Raiders are set to repeat another woeful season :)

You've posted six times and your already crapping on about the tigers potential, but what I did fail to see in your post was the four or five raiders players that fit into the same category as the three tigers you mentioned, the likes of Todd Carney and Terry Campese will only benefit from the experience that Jason Smith brings to the side (even if he is injured) add to that, Jermaine Ale and Bronx Goodwin, Craig Frawley, David Milne????

We only have no potential because you don't do your research.

Flashback 1996 GF:
Matthew Ridge is held. David Manson allows Ridge to get up and continue running. Manly scores try. Manly win.

flipside
Matthew Ridge is held. David Manson penalises Ridge for getting up and running. St George scores try. St George win.

Revisionism is fun!

Completely ignoring the Danny Moore try in the second half.

If Ridge was held. The half would have ended maybe a set later.

Manly would have won even if Beaver didn't score that try from the Ridge "not held".

Meh, Godz's post is lost on some of you...

As a Raiders fan i've never felt so empty after a season than in 1995. Our best regular season ever with 20W - 2L, our only losses being to manly and cronulla. However we ended up being pipped by manly for the minor premiership on F&A. 1995 also happened to be the first year we had a top 8 and if it wasn't for that the Bulldogs wouldn't have gotten anywhere near the GF as they finished 6th.

We also had that horrible origin series that year with none of the SL players allowed to partake. NSW still had a lot of stars though and got embarassed by a bunch of nobodies from QLD with an idiot for a coach.

The season don't count for nothing if you don't turn up on the day, though, and Manly and Canberra didn't, Canterbury definitely did!

Exactly. Why shouild "turning up" for the whole season count for less than the last 80 mintes - Parramatta were victims of a similar crime in 2001.

When such tiny fraction of total playing time settles the premiership, it introduces the effect of random events (such as appalling refereeing) deciding the title.

Well, it's an interesting arguement. I prefer the grand final - there's the arguement that if the team really is the definite best then they should be able to rise to the occasion on the biggest day.

A premiership decided by the round robin is of course more fair, but not immune to similar problems - say a team ends up one point behind the winner, with poor refereeing in one game costing them certain victory. And a match between Souths and Manly in round 24 is boring and meaningless now, it would be even more-so if there was no finals series (or equally boring in round 4!).

But there's arguements both ways, that's just why I prefer the current Grand Final system.

James.

Grand Finals are the only way to go. Look at competitions like the EPL, decided 3/4 of the way through the premeirship.

The way the competition is set up at the moment, the first 26 rounds are only a qualification for the final series then the real football begins. The pressure is turned up a notch and then you can see the real teams from the pretenders.

And if Steve Clark hadn't been such a dick that day in 1999, the Sharks would have made the Grand Final, smashed the Storm and been premiers. But its almost 2005.... SO MOVE ON!

That said, we were also robbed in 97 :p

Manson was an arrogant pr*ck. Even when he was questioned about Ridge being tackled, & they played the tape right in front of him, he still wouldn't admit to be terribly wrong.

Oh well, Manly were the better team anyway

Yeah, I remember that. He looked at both the touchie & Manson & threw the ball the ground & started going off whilst Manson was smiling at him. Was funny especially when everyone was going for Newcastle :D

Yer, it is too bad you can't complain about any Grand Final in the last 10 years.

You won't be able to in three years either. In fact all you'll be able to whinge about is your finals appearance in 1998!

The only thing worse than a Manly fan whinging about what might have been in '95 is a Tigers fan still bitter about '89.

Gee just got woken up for me pills....

Tell you what I reckon it is great to hear Manly fans whinge about referees and refs decisions.

Where is Hollywood when you need him. 7 tackles for them 6 for the others. Go ask some old Parra fans with memories.

"The truth is out there"

Arrrrrrr well I guess it is true what they say about the wheel of life turning.

Have a great new year.
