So i wonder why he is ineligible to waterboy for Tonga. It is probably the 2 year rule because the ARL and RLIF is really strict on that. You cant change the rules on something as important as that. Can you?

I really hope that Tonga make a fight about this, and actually allow Isreal to sign on with a local Tongan team and play as an international even while he is playing AFL. The AFL will gain zero from it, because let us be honest, no one wants to play AFL in QLD, and never will. But the international game of rugby league could benefit hugely from it. The publicity the international game would get in AFL states is irreplaceable. It is a huge lost opportunity for Rugby league, imo.

reap what you sow in a corporate world.

I think sometimes people forget sport at this level is corporate not chook raffles.

Good effort by league to ensure that Folau switches to rugby when his AFL contract is up.
Nice and short sighted.

This is quite disgusting by the NRL.

Really, they are acting like children. Banning a guy who grew up on league.

What happened to the 'Inclusiveness' of Rugby League...

Jeez, all you are doing is putting people off.

Shouldn't he be learning how to kick a Sherrin or something?

and Carr is an absolute merkin saying he doesn't want the AFL to get publicity from this when making an issue out of it has given it far more publicity than if he was to just run on as waterboy. Surely the AFL aren't going to advertise one of their prime recruits as a waterboy?

Is he an accredited trainer? Nope.
Should he be on the field? Nope.

If he wants to support Rugby League, let him buy a ticket and watch from the stands like the rest of us.

If Folau was so concerned about Tongan Rugby League, he wouldn't be abandoning them for $3 million in a competing sport - Rugby League owes him nothing now.

Every time his name is mentioned by a Rugby League person, even this article or during a radio call/tv coverage, it's a free advertising hit for the AFL. Why allow it 20 times in a game next week? I mean - we banned Super League defectors from playing State of Origin in the nineties - yet they let Union/AFL defectors play.

I can't wait till October 31st when his contract expires and he has no more involvement in the game whatsoever and we can just tune out the paid-for AFL propaganda instead.

Amen, brother. Amen. Well said!

I really don't see how running water out for Tonga is benefiting Folau in any way.

If anything, it's probably good for the Tongan side to have Folau involved.

Agree. Looks to me he's trying to give something back to the game and his country of heritage, rather than trying to gain anything out of it for himself.

I don't see what people are whingeing about. He played for QLD and Australia this year... he shouldn't be involved in Test matches for anyone but Australia until he's eligible to do so, shouldn't matter whether he's a player waterboy whatever.

Every news report will be have in it "and AFL bound League star Israel Folau"

Wrong.

He was 'out of form'.

 c'mon, he's the waterboy, they'd get stuff all publicity.

Now that he's been banned, there's more of a story and the AFL got all the publicity they want.

Carr is petty, and this is just another strike against his name for me.

You'd wonder how Carr gets dressed in the morning ... it's off-season and the media circus is starving.

"In other news AFL bound star Israel Folau ran the water for the Tongan Rugby League side today in their match against Samoa. His amazing tries, games for QLD after sigining for AFL and subsequent superstardom have been no match for the publicity he is getting for being the waterboy..."

Who cares. He's sending a message saying if you jump ship there will be consequences, good on Geoff Carr I reckon. It's hardly publicity for the AFL. It's the off season and apart from us hardcore fans who use internet forums no-one is paying attention to league news, nor AFL news for that matter either.
