From an earlier post.

"...this presently contracted NRL player…

Took part in a AFL media stunt held for no other purpose than to gain publicity for the AFL and its new franchise, and at which he openly spoke in favour of AFL entering the western Sydney market and encouraged the community to take up the game.

Folau also gave valuable media photo/video opportunities with AFL officials, and allowed himself to be photographed by the media/AFL on an AFL ground with AFL posts in the background.

The only redeemable thing he did was decline to be photographed/filmed holding an AFL shirt.

Folau did all of this while still a contracted NRL player."

But aside from this, just taking part in this cross code circus is promoting the AFL and for this reason I believe he should not be picked for SOO.

Get it yet??

All of this a total waste of time and meant absolutely nothing.

Fact: he gave an interview to the media that he would have a new employer there next year. This is a media stunt? So every time a player signs with a new club and the media take photos and news reports it it was a media stunt. Are the interviews on bigpond media stunts too? I mean they have officials in background and bill boards. The players often promote league on them so they must be media stunts too right? He is not an AFL employee yet and giving an interview to say you're joining a new employer does not count as actively promoting another code.

Folau announced he was leaving while still contracted? Should he not be rewarded for that? Instead of not telling anyone this year and having speculation grow to boiling point he simply revealed all.

Actively promoting the other code would involve - wearing the new jumper, doing commercials, appearing on bill boards - all things to come next year when he's left the NRL possibly but he has not breached his NRL contractual obligations with anything you suggested previously. Thus no reason to punish him. If he were to do advertisements now for the AFL that may be breaking the spirit of his contract with the NRL. But he has not done so yet.

However the young man may yet breach his contract with the AFL and try to remain with NRL or goto union - we cannot guess what the future will hold definitely.

F**k me, getting dumber by the minute. Yes, he should be rewarded. He should be carried out on to the ground at Suncorp next Wednesday on a golden throne while young Mormon women sprinkle him with rose petals. Then at the end of the year the NRL should give him a gold rolex for all his hard work and dedication over his illustrious career.

I think Issy has been far more honest and above board than someone who would announce their new contract and departure after origin. Thus he should be rewarded with a little more respect and compassion for not being surreptitious but being upfront and frank about the matter.

Of course Folau should play if Queensland are win hungry enough to wish it so. Many people in Queensland league dont want him to play, but the players want it and they hold the power.

Either Queensland stop him playing and go for someone who they feel will be loyal to league and not themselves in BOTH games or they let him play BOTH games.

After all, game 3 is in Western Sydney and the people of Western Sydney should be able to go to the game and let Folau know what they think of someone who chooses to play for Queensland on the strength of two years up there vs fifteen years in Sydney and who then turns his back on League to play for a code thats trying to kill league. He is the Judas thats taking his pieces of silver just as he chose glory over his roots playing for Queensland.

Bitter? Definately. I hope everyone else in Western Sydney is just as bitter and angry as I am. Make a banner and get to the game.

We Queenslanders know Origin better than NSW will ever do. Of course, we've done a backflip on our word with Folau. But he was always going to be chosen. Do we really care what is said from now on? Not really but we'll continue to stoke the fire when needed. It's all to our benefit. Remember first game when we convinced everyone that we were underdogs despite four straight series wins. We realise we couldn't use that tact in this game so we changed.

I cannot believe i wasted my time by reading that iwant my time back.

f**k oath me too what a f**king load of sh*t!

Its not about Israel Folau, its not about State of Origin. Its about Rugby League and our war with AFL (and thats exactly what it is, a war)

Folau is a tool, a pawn in this war. Folau plays in our games show peice, among our best, and the AFL will be able to come out and say "your best stars are now playing AFL". We signed Dally Messenger to get the crowds from Union to Rugby League and the AFL (like Union tried to) are signing our stars to take the interest over to them, and putting Israel Folau on the highest pedastal in Australian RL is only ballooning that effect.

Do you get it yet? My god, would you guys (Im trying not to say Queenslanders as some of you are against Folau playing) want Andrew Johns playing for Australia if he signed with Union? Would you want Gasnier playing for League if we knew he was going to Union earlier?

What the QRL have done is a self centered and an insular decision, and people have the hide to accuse the NSWRL of holding the game back. (yes they are, but they arent the only ones, clearly)

General rule: The best representative team should be selected.
Exception: A player may be ommitted when that player has brought the game into disrepute through ill behaved antics such as breaking the law.

Switching codes is a business or personal decision that has not brought the game into disrepute. Folau has not been found guilty of sexual violation, assault, racial slurs, put a finger up someone else's bum, or sent special sauce text messages.

I think most fans agree just want to see the best teams play. League is going to lose more stars. Its the poor code. AFL and Union cheque books can set a player up for life so that they never need to worry. By realising this and treating players with compassion they are likely to return to the game and offer us more entertainment before their retirement.

Wouldn't have a problem with Gasnier playing again for NSW, just as not even a ripple was raised in the Queensland press or these forums when Tahu was selected for NSW, despite the fact he LIED TO THE RUGBY LEAGUE PUBLIC before he took the decision to join union for three years (or whatever it was).

What message does Tahu's selection send to everyone.

Here goes: "It's OK to go and make a few million from another code of football, but we know you'll return home one day. And when you do, we'll be waiting for ya mate."

That's the message we should be sending to Falou.

You have a real hard time differentiating between past, present and future dont you?

Tahu DID (past tense) leave the game.

Folau WILL (future tense) leave the game.

What message is the QRL sending out now? "its ok guys, you can go play AFL, Rah Rah, what ever, and you can still enjoy the perks of our sport and represent us as a state"

Fact is, the governing bodies are now using rep games as bargaining chips to keep players in the NRL. Im sure Origin had a big part to play with keeping Thurston in the NRL. The QRL is going completely against that.

And on Gasnier, id have a problem with him playing this year, but in 2011, if he is signed on for 2012 aswell, then no worries, the jerseys waiting for him.

I can differentitate. I just don't think there's a difference when we're talking loyalty. You're either loyal (by sticking through think in thin) or you're not ... present, future, past ... whatever.

Tahu is not a loyal rugby league player. Falou is not a loyal rugby league player.

The only way to use Rep games as a bargaining chip is to rule out anyone who is not signed in the NRL for the next season, otherwise it will just make players wait until Origin is over before signing with the enemy.

Even then, I doubt it will do any good. I'm pretty sure Folau signed thinking he most likely would be barred from Origin II and III. And I doubt very much that there are many players out there who love RL more than him. The offer is simply too good to turn your back on it!

The foolish jumping high and low and accrued publicity brought about by the dinosaur presiding over the NSWRL, is doing much more for AFL than the QRL did by picking him for Origin, where he will be drawing their public to our game!

He's busted his ass the last few years for QLD and on form and ability should be selected. He deserves to be a part of the five years in a row, 2010 sweep.

What he does next year, is what he does next year.

If Brisbane make the Grand Final are we going to try and ban him from playing that too? Bitch please.

Stop crying. You pick the best available. End of story.

I'm from NSW too.

I agree, he has busted his ass and deserves to be there on form however in the best intrest of RL he should be stood down. The game is now a business.

The conclusion does not match the premises.

p1 Israel is in form
p2 Israel is a proven performer
p3 The game is a business
p4 The guy has a contractual obligation to play till the end of the year which he has not breached
c1 He should be dropped.

Simply illogical!

Personally I'm of the opinion that if ANYONE switches codes, regardless of if they've going or have come back, then NO rep football.

Why should we reward players who turn their back on league?

Origin isnt about personal gain, its about much more than that. Those that promote other codes over ours shouldnt take part in our showcase games.

That goes for all players on both sides of the border regardless of the code they went to or are going to.

This is not a Queensland vs New South Wales arguement, so stop fighting it along those lines. This is about rugby league. Turncoats are not welcome.

....and throw away the key!

That's the most unforgiving and cut your nose off to spite your face attitude I have ever heard!

Are you consistent?

Do you think Michael O'Connor should never have played origin? or Ricky Stuart?

What about those that went to rugby schools? Ben Kennedy and Wally Lewis? Should they never be selected?

I mean they're turn coats too.

Or is just turn coats who start from league who should be banned?

You're being emotional. The kid wants some cash and chase a few new goals. I mean if someone left Australia to do an working OE elsewhere would you say they're not entitled to a job in Australia when they come back?

We all know how pro-active the ARL and NRL are..... thats why we dont have that rule already. But it should be there.
