QLD were gutless on changing their decision about I$ra€£.

some people are just looking at this decision with a very narrow perspective, its not just a matter of picking him or droping him for the reasons which we have already heard ten times over.

But take this into consideration...

Anyone involved in team QLD also want to make sure that team preperations and moral are just right leading into the game ,so having said that -when the team themselves come before selectors and say "we want to play beside izzy" its then a matter of appeasing the requests of the players for the sake of team confidence and morality leading to the big game more so than doing Folau any favours however he wouldnt be there if his playing was rubbish either depite what the other players wanted.

teams like playing beside particular players one player that comes to mind is Michael croker, its been noted previously that players have expressed their wants and needs of having him in their side, so thier decision to put Folau in that same light is not somthing they do lightly ,there is a reason why they want Folau and its not somthing that many of us can understand since we are not the ones on the field beside him.

so we can complain all we want but players opinions are considered stronly because all politics aside when it comes to the crunch and its game day the players are the ones who need to do the job and they want a specific player ,who are we to complain or argue with that?

As Daz has said, all the detractors (overwhelmingly NSW's coincidently) haven't made a case to why Folau playing SoO is good for AFL and bad for RL.

From a marketing point of view, Folau in SoO will be attracting public from a different code and very likely increase the TV ratings to a level never before seen. Remember that whether it's negative or positive, publicity is GOOD!
RL is already the sport with the highest TV ratings, so how will increasing the ratings for the RL showpiece, and thus giving the NRL more arguments when negociating the TV rights, be good to AFL?

The greatest danger would be if we (RL fans) start watching fumble ball because Folau is in the GWS team, and Origin will have nothing to do with that!

I very much doubt he will ever play in any AFL game remotely close to the profile of a SoO anyway!

There is a loophole that needs to be closed in player contracts though:
No publicity for another code is allowed in anyway, shape or form until expiry of the current NRL contract!

I have no doubts where Izzy's heart lies and he just betrayed it again in his recent comments to his selection for Origin II, but he was more than likely forced to put on that GWS circus and the "challenge" bs as part of the huge marketing component of his contract.
Still good on him that he refused to pose with an AFL shirt!

Darren Lockyer didn't want to play with him a week ago. So why has he changed his mind now?

I'll spell it out for NSW fans:

Lockyer wants Folau to play because he wants to win. Winning is the objective of point based games and that is why you score points. Team with the most points wins. Folau is pretty good at scoring points because he scores more tries than he lets in.

Yes, they made the decision because they knew it would make everyone happy.

What is the specific 'value' exercised by not picking him. Why would it have been courageous to drop him?

No 'value' involved. It was all about people feeling hurt and betrayed.

For most people, that feeling has disappeared in a week since the announcement.

Yup ... sums it up pretty well.

Same reasons NSW selected their own code-hopper Tahu except Tahu is on a much smaller scale when it comes to point scoring potential.

Are you serious ?

look if no one was pointing a gun to Lockyers head and he genuinely had a change of mind- then who cares "why"? ,cant people change their minds?, most likely cenario is that he has come down from the initial reflex "shock and anger" reaction and is now actually "thinking about it" since the game draws nearer ,he is not still spending his time crying about the move.

Are you honestly asking me "why has lockyer changed his mind?, how would I know? ,why dont you ask him yourself but more importantly "who cares why.

Allan Langer was selected for Origin while playing for English club Warrington Wolves.
Darren Smith was selected for Australia in 2003 while playing St Helens, at the age of 35.
Jamie Lyon was selected for Australia in 2006 after playing for English club St Helens.

Andrew Johns turned out for the NSW cricket 20/20 team while a contracted RL player.

That was promoting another sport.

FFS ha ha he wasn't getting PAID Just fart arcing around Massive difference. Lucky we live in a democracy

Coincidently all the people backing his selection are Qldrs. Fancy that. I do not feel that strongly either way but if there is a side I am more predominately on it is Qld should not have picked him. I get the arguments that his teammates what him to play, they want to win etc, it all makes sense. However I bet alot of these people defending him would also be the first to critise the NRL for doing nothing and say we are walked all over by other codes when players switch. I know not picking them for Origin is only a minor thing but at least it is a start.

In the light of an extra $500,000 a year (or whatever he's making) ... yes very minor.

But again, I still haven't seen anyone outline to me why Falou's appearance in the game is going to boost AFL or detract from NRL.

No, there's plenty of Queenslanders that DON'T agree with the selection either.

i have heard and read the term "AFL convert" dozens of time since Queensland did a backflip

and on all news channels there has been a lot of footage of Folau at his GWS media conference when Origin is talked about

most disturbing is they picked a guy who was asked

media: how will you feel telling kids to play AFL and not Rugby League?

Folau: i certainly won't feel guilty

the guy is a f**king scumbag. i hope he snaps both legs

I think Lote would score plently of points in the end of the Queensland backline. His defence is solid as well. I have said it before I would reward the guy who has come back to our game over the guy leaving our game.

Big deal! You could read or hear "BP" one hundred times tomorrow, and it won't change you're perception about BP - which is based on fact - BP are polluting the environment.

Same with AFL. They can say "AFL-convert" all they like, but most NRL supporters will only hate AFL the more, and AFL fans will either shrug their shoulders or be angry that the game's administrators forked out so much money for someone who doesn't know how to play.

In my book, this sham of a marketing ploy will back-fire on the AFL BIG TIME ... in the long term. Be patient ...

It is pretty hard to quantify that last sentence however it is a matter of principle for the NRL. If NSWs star fullback and captain Kurt Gidley signed with AFL I would have no hesitation in not picking him.

I understand all points of view, but personally I'd rather lose the Origin then for them to have picked that traitorous scumbag, and I've never thought anything would be above winning the Origin.

Just my opinion of course.

I'd love to see Lote play in Qld colours again. I actually asked do the players not like Lote because they could have selected him over Folau.

At the end of the day I'm happy with the outside backs selected and confident they are all deserving quality footballers.

Care to elaborate on the traitorous scumbag?
You would of course not take an extra $500k a year for the love of the game, right?
Or say $100k a year to move to a competitor of your current employer where you can earn max $50k...?

I cannot believe the self-righteousness of some people about a young man making a decision for his and his family's future!

Unlike the likes of Tahu or cutie, Folau was honest about his decision and didn't wait until the end of the Origin series to announce it, knowing well the risk of being cast out of the team.
