"punching its head against a brick wall"

Classic sticky mixing his metaphors and getting all hot about spending big dollars on a goose.

Another update from the source on nospam46 - the rumour is that the big sticking point is basically what the NRL values Folau at under the cap. We are trying to get a lower amount, but the NRL wants a higher amount. Essentially we'd be able to sign him for the higher amount, but it will affect our salary cap for 2014 signings, whereas the lower amount would have much less of an impact.

If this is true, surely the Lockyer at 200 000 for the broncos is precedent. You can't say izzy is valued any where near the Australian captain

What a frigging joke, yet they let Le Gaz sign in 2010 for a 55k contract

Could there be any truth to this??

Does the nrl have a 'value' for each and every player?

What happens if a player is happy to stay at his current for unders??

Ok, I have to be careful with what I say as it can be taken the wrong way by any legal party that might browse the forum. In that sense, I want to be respectful for the forum when I talk about this subject.

Essentially, the NRL has their own idea of what 'star' players should be getting under the cap, so as to limit how much of their salary can be subsidized by third party sponsors - apparently there are no limits to how much a player can be paid by third-party sponsors in general. This means that clubs that have more third-party sponsors may be able to get more star players with subsidized contracts under the cap than others, hence why the NRL tries to set an estimated value on them so that no club can gain an unfair advantage.

Again, this is purely speculations and I don't want it taken the wrong way. Whether you believe this or not is purely up to you - I am not sure if it is true, but if it is, then it explains why Edwards mentioned a salary cap issue and yet most still think Izzy will sign with us.

Just covering my bases, I don't want to get the forum in trouble because I ran my mouth.

This way there should be a points system and not a salary cap.
NRL gets all players a points value and each team has a cap on points.

Freedom of speech is not dead sir ! You speak your mind and no forum can limit what you say ! f**k the nrl they have no say in who we can and cant sign! We do as we want because we can ! We pay for a License every year, just so long as we "dont" breach their so called cap rules .Their cap rules have been breached so many times its ridiculous. All of a sudden they are looking at us as a possible breach. Please ! Why not simply say chewie on your boot, come get us ! Everyone else does it.

If the NRL values certain players, they should realistically value all players, otherwise it can get very confusing.

Good.

Sticky backed the NRL into a corner by publicly stating the need for 'assistance' in fitting Falou under the cap. What's wrong with keeping his f**king mouth shut? It's good enough for Bennett, Bellamy and Hasler to keep a low media profile.

If they had gone quietly to the NRL they might have gotten what they wanted. Now they've got every other club in the league working to stop the deal.

I'm not sure what Izzy's value has to do with the NRL. If he wants to sign for jack shit thats his business.

How do you value an AFL player ?
