Football Managment Games

I used to have FM05 - might still have it hanging around.

Started off as manager of the Roar - in this game however, the A-League is formatted differently to real life, with a 28-round season and a fictional cup competition involving teams such as South Melbourne, Sydney Olympic and the Strikers. The seedings in this competition never change and more often than not the non-A-League teams won!

Stayed at the Roar for seven seasons, employing an attacking 4-4-2 diamond formation. We never made huge signings (couldn't - the transfer budget was too small) but a combination of good tactics and reliable players saw us in the top four every season except for our first. Our usual scoreline was 3-1 or 4-2 - or a 5-0 loss (more often than not to Central Bloody Coast!)

Three grand finals, all lost, including one in a marathon penalty shootout (7-6).

With Australia not part of Asia in this game, only the grand final winners progressed to continental competition, against the best of Oceania.

Looking for a new challenge, I took over at the Jets but only lasted a season and was sacked in fifth place with five games to go (!!!???!!!)

Australia approached me to be their manager and I stayed there for the next seven seasons, taking over just after a World Cup year. By this stage, the Kewells, Vidukas, Neills etc had all retired and it was a battle to get past New Zealand each year, although we always did.

A highlight was making the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup, beating Asian champs China and surprise World Cup finalists Senegal in the process.

We also qualified for the World Cup, with a 5-1 aggregrate result against Peru taking us to the big show. We lost our first two games against England and Colombia but in our final game scored a 2-0 win against hosts Canada.

I eventually retired (before I could be sacked) three years later after a loss to Vanautu in the Oceania Nations Cup saw Australia miss out on progressing any further to the World Cup. We had a massive injury toll during that tournament and had 11 players make their debut in 'that' game, lost 2-1 in injury time.

All in all, heaps of fun.

Not too bad Tonearm, in real life would have been like 8-0. And what were you doing playing Barca anyway?

Just another reason why we need a Wollongong, South Coast or Illawarra team in the A-League.

With all due respect SD, why should a video game decide which teams come into the A-League? They should have a team though.

I know, I am really pushing for a Ilawarra based A-League side and am asisting the council with their bid and just stupid little things like that just make me mention a Wollongong A-League team. :p And am glad you support the fact that the Illawarra NEEDS an A-League team.

Chelsea piss the sh*t out of me too!!!!!

Was previously playing with Barcelona, have stoped playing that game know, don't know why, was going well.

Well, anyway, it is 2010, Messi is THE big thing and Chelsea e-mail me every day, asking what I want for him and I keep saying he is indispensable to the club but every day again and again they ask but thankfully Messi says he is devoted to the club and his contract runs till 2014. It's sort of boosted the morale in my team because everyone was very happy that Messi would stay. And Liverpool keep bugging me about Dos Santos, but like twice a week, not every day. Dos Santos is an awesome player. Love him.

Damn Chelsea!!!

I'm on top of the A-League after 6 or 7 games with the Jets (can't remember which ). It is a very tight season so far.

nah mate it's simple. go to your football manager folder. click on data editor. click load databse. load the default. destroy chelski. save it as a new databse, i donno your name? something liek that. when you start up again you can choose the new databse or the default one so you can go back to the original state if you like.

football games are so much fun when chelski are playing out of the conference league

the databse editor isn't as good as past championship manager games. but you can stuff around with their finances etc...
