Thank god. I want the movie focused on League, not jew-bashing. I'm going to see it on Tuesday at Blacktown.

I have just seen it. And surprisingly it was better than I thought. Good storyline as well. I'd give it a 8/10.

So they have Aussie movies in the States then :sarcasm:

Ill probably go and see it with a few mates.

in the Melbourne paper today some idiot gave it a 1 and this is what he/she said

"to cap it all off, when seen through victorian eyes, the fact the film demands we raise our glass to the redemptive powers of rugby leage simply makes it all the more unwatchable"

no one forced the idiot too watch it he knew it was a rugby league movie

I think it will go better in the non RL states, because the footy scenes are pretty poor. 7 really unfit looking actors who actually pulled off the 'bogan' look really well - but didn't at all convince as footy players.

Apart from the footy scenes, it was a fair movie.

That just sums up the Melbourne media.

AFL cronies to the last.

It's deadset embarassing. I like Melbourne but it would definitely be a deterrent to ever move there.

i wonder if they'll screen it overseas...

I doubt it. Most Australian films take 2-3 years to reach the US. Young Einstein, Wolf Creek and the Croc Dundee Movies are a few exceptions

I saw it last night, it is a very enjoyable film that had the (Melbourne)audience thoroughly entertained. Listening to people as they were leaving, the general consensus was that it exceeded expectations and they enjoyed the footy scenes.

You were at the advanced screening at Highpoint?

I was there with MikeTheUndertaker.

I thoughly enjoyed it. Not the best Aussie movie i seen but it was good.

Anh Do, Angus Sampson and that kid and the grandfather were great in this film. There was only one problem, It gave me a Few Questions like Is the Kid staying the brother and is Jasmine coming back?

I be honest, watching "the club" all my life, this had a different take and a emotional side which was great.

Go Yagoona 3.8 out of 5

Jew Bashing or Footy Legends?

I got outvoted last night and instead had to sit through some sh*thouse film whose only redeeming feature(s) was Eva Longoria. Hopefully I'll get to see it next week.

Would that be The Sentinel?

Yeah, I thought the same thing but in retrospect I actually liked the fact that the loose ends were tied up with one great moment.

Some of the laughs in the movie were killer:

1) Boof to his kid standing upside down when being told off:

(Westie voice) 'If I ever smoke again, my dad Boof, will kick me, with his footy boots, in the nuts, and it will really hurt, Ok, again'

The kid's repetition of each line was hilarious

2) Player's son to Player's girlfriend in jail: 'He's gonna be on tv soon'

Player's girlfriend: 'Are you in a porno?'

Had me laughing for a few minutes!

3) 'Bullsh*t!' - the nutto drunk guy in the Yagoona pub who falls off his chair! ahahhahahaha man, watch it and you know who I mean, what a cack and well done! Those Yagoona scenes were awesome

4) Wahlid (Sleek) and teammates trade comments before the final after they notice his shaved head:

Wahlid: 'Watch how fast I run now'
Teammate: 'Hey boys, Wally's gone Brazilian'
Wahlid: 'What are you talking about bro, I'm Lebanese'

Watch it and you'll love the execution

5) Luc in a huddle in the final game: 'We suck at maths and we can't spell for sh*t'

Overall I loved it, the film made me laugh and cry! The characters were so familiar and able to be related to so easily. The film touches upon different social issues in such a light hearted and inadvertent way throughout the movie.

Another cool think is that my girlfriend who is studying to be an English teacher and is a subscriber to a certain media study site saw that an advanced screening last Wed night was offered for teachers and she said that it may point to an educational unit being developed for the English secondary syllabus on this movie! That sounds awesome and I hope it does happen, I will keep an eye on it.
