Foreign walkout for the ARU....implications for TGG?

I think that the rah's will be pursuing NRL players if the above story is true. The impact of this, combined with the fifth Australian team in the S15 may pose a challenge.

Luckily, the game hasn't exactly been going through a high point in recent years so the money wells have dried up a bit

My concern revolves around dilution of talent...if we are to expand to 18-20 teams, things such as the above will not help our cause

Let's hope the next TV deal is a good'n

Kind Regards,

The ARU's broke-arse would be hard pressed to pinch players from NSW Cup nowadays.

French and even Japanese Union are a bigger threat at the moment.

Most likely nothing.. I wouldn't be surprised if some Rugby Union players came across soon. Cooper, Barnes, Beale, Ioane and Genia would be all stars in the NRL.

Quite the opposite, with two new teams the ability for our talented players to be in the top earner % increases. ARU hasn't got the $'s anymore to raid the NRL for stars. It might target the Toyota cup but again with two new teams their wil be a greater chance of a first team contract for undr 20's to stay in the NRL.

I’m expecting a couple of them to sign up to big, back-ended deals after the Union WC.

Once the independent commission is implemented, the salary cap will go straight up. For 2012, it could be as high as $6m. The situation is a lot different to 2001 when the NRL was locked into a scummy 10 year x $13m @ season TV deal with PBL. By 2013, the NRL will be the predator and the ARU will be on the run with the NRL signing new sponsorship and media deals. My heart bleeds for them.
I noticed Quade Cooper isn’t on that list. Interesting

There's barely a decent player among them. Barnes, Cooper and Genia are OK and might make it in the NRL. The rest are nevilles, fat f**ks who waddle from scrum to scrum or tall f**ks whose only talent is to catch a ball now and then.
What a shame the ARU is broke.

The ARU isn't a threat, Union in this country is doing a good job of dying (along with soccer). It's overseas Union clubs that are the real threat. This doesn't change that.

It could be as high as $10mill, $6mill would be absolute LEAST acceptable.

where is the extra money coming from in 2012? I can see the salary cap in 2013 being $6-7mill max

Granted very few of the forwards in Union would be any good at all in league, but a number of halves and outside backs would go alright I think. The outside backs just don't get huge coin in League so would be doubtful they would come, Drew Mitchell for example would be a pretty fair winger or fullback in my view.

Oink !

ps Where is the IC at right now ? Shouldn't we be hearing about commissioner candidates etc ? Don't tell me there is a separate forum for this topic also ?

I don't think it's the high profile players we have to worry about as much. I think the ARU will have to sit down and restructure how players are paid and handled, and as such local juniors will become the priority for them. They haven't got the cash to pay their high profile players what they are worth, but they definitely have enough cash to invade local rugby league territory.

I misread Green Machine's post. For 2012 the NRL will try to get a percentage of the TV to increase the salary cap by a million or two. From 2013 the new deal will be fully up and running with a salary cap up towards the 8-10million mark.

Union is almost dead as a domestic sport in Australia , union is struggling to find any competitive competition to equal rugby league
