Former Panthers in the NRL

Greg Alexander is the best player to ever play for this club. Craig Gower 2nd and Mick Stephenson 3rd.

Brad Fittler maybe have been the most gifted but he played the greater majority of his career at the Roosters he cannot be considered for our top three in my opinion.

It was so great when Brandy returned to finish his career with the Panthers because his heart and soul was always with our club.

Personally, I would never ever want Matt Moylan to return to our club because his heart and soul was never part of our club.

Matt Moylan was a very selfish individual who delivered once in maybe every half a dozen or so games and when the when we needed him the most he was no where to be seen. Good luck to him at the Sharks.
And he was a petulant little brat, who wouldn't cop his punishment like a man, like the other players involved in the Melbourne fiasco.

Anyone who is prepared to subject themselves to a 'horse needle' injected into there sternum week in week out for any length of time just to get on the field deserves our admiration. Craig Gower say no more. Before the game and at half time as well. That was Gowie's rehab, they had to drive the needles in with a hammer as the legend goes.

Matt Moylan gimme a break.

Gower also got drunk did some f**ked up shit and left the club. He wasn't a saint, he's loved because he won a premiership. A lot of footballers we like are not that great off the field.

The Penrith Rugby League Club has stripped Craig Gower of the captaincy after he allegedly groped the daughter of former Australian international Wayne Pearce during a drunken binge at a charity golf tournament.

Gower has also been fined $100,000, although $70,000 of that is to be suspended on several conditions, including that he seek alcohol counselling. The other $30,000 will go towards an alcohol education program for NRL players.

The decision was made during a three hour-meeting between Gower and the club's board on Wednesday. Gower refused to speak to reporters after the meeting.

The meeting came after the Kangaroos star was reported to have groped Pearce's daughter and threatened Pearce's son during the charity golf event on Queensland's Sunshine Coast last month.

Gower was at the event as part of a week-long buck's party ahead of his wedding.

Penrith chairman Barry Walsh said the Panthers had not taken the decision to strip Gower of the captaincy lightly.

"In making this decision the board has considered Craig's conduct on the field and his general commitment to our community over the years," he said.

"Nevertheless his actions on the Sunshine Coast caused distress to a number of people and damaged our club, our game and the National Rugby League."

The NRL said Gower faced even tougher penalties from both his club and the league if he found himself in similar trouble again.

Where did I say Craig Gower was a saint? I never said he was a saint.

I said he is (IMO) the 2nd best player we have had in our 50 year history as a club.

In reference to his injury issues, it is well documented what Craig Gower went through to get on the field for the Panthers when he was suffering from a chronic sternum injury.

I have enjoyed a few beers with Craig Gower and frankly you would not meet a more humble and decent human being.

Did he make a mistake at a charity golf event well apparently he did because he confessed to doing something he shouldn't have done.

You should also take into account the fact many who do the wrong thing never admit to doing so. Craig Gower was man enough to admit his mistake and should be commended for it in my opinion.

In terms of what they gave to this football club, I repeat the point I was making in the first instance you would never, ever, ever talk about Matt Moylan in the same breath as Craig Gower. End of story.[/QUOTE]

You're right I wouldn't. Moylan didn't bring the club into disrepute and sexually assault a woman.

I knew Gower from when I worked at the club and really liked him. My point is people shitting on Moylan are massive hypocrites for also loving someone like Gower. There is no justifiable basis for it.

Big difference in the attitude to training and games though.

I agree. Both had positives and negatives. Moylan was fine until 2017 for whatever reason. Clearly something happened and a rift occurred between certain people. Shit happens and people fall out. It's fine to dislike him but he is good at the sport.

Well then we will agree to disagree and obviously I am a hypocrite.

However, forgive me, if I would choose to have Craig Gower by my side in the trenches when the things are getting a little tough rather than Matt Moylan who found things a little difficult trying to rehab an alleged tight hamstring at a time when we needed him.

It's fine you support Matt Moylan but at the end of the day those closest to him, his team mates, couldn't wait to see the back of him. Tim Grant is returning but take it from me Matt Moylan will never be back.

I get you don't like him and respect that you have your reasons. You have no idea what his team mates thought of him though. Unless you are one of them in which case Fair play to you.

That would definitely abort his career.

Trent Barrett isn't going to be able to get his career back on track. He will destroy it altogether

For the record I was one of Matt Moylan's biggest supporters on here, albeit I expressed he opinion his best position was fullback as opposed to those who thought he was better suited in halves.

I am confident you could search this forum and you would not find one example of me criticising Matt Moylan prior to the incidents which ultimately led to his downfall from our club.

I still don't dislike him. I think he is a very talented player and offers the Cronulla Sharks a lot of upside.

You chose to make this a character test between Matt Moylan and Craig Gower, not quite sure why but you did and you seem to justify your position by the fact Craig Gower was alleged to have committed an offence against a female.

I will just conclude by reiterating my original point, which basically is the fact while Craig Gower is a Panther legend, one of our greats while Matt Moylan will be remembered by basically nobody in discussions about the Panthers in 10 years time.

I did it because people compared them first. I was happy to just have a comment about a good play he made on the weekend.

I agree about who will be remembered. Gower won a premiership with us and Moylan didn't.

Abort the only team that would take him atm

Yeah. It's his rock bottom.

Keiran Foran hasn't had a decent run of footy in 5 years. I think there would be more interest in Carty than just one club.

Not for huge money. But everyone would jump at the chance to get a player of his skill level in hopes of getting a bargain.

With how low his stocks have fallen. He could potentially be a buy of the season candidate if someone could get his head right. It's a big if. But talent like that is rare and coaches always seem to think they can get it back. When really Carty needs a shrink before a coach.

This alone is the reason why Gower deserves his name on top of the Eastern Grandstand along with Moran, Simmons and Alexander

Foran took time off from the game and is still mentally weak. You'd question Bryce's commitment and with the big contract it is big gamble
