It still amazes me how rattled people are by Griffins comment. A comment made 24hrs after he was blindsided with his team sitting 4th, a team that was leading the comp 5 weeks earlier with a horrendous injury toll. You wouldn’t be emotional??

Gus also headhunted a coach known for junior development & junior pathways... if there weren’t things that needed to be tweaked or fixed within that system, why would he headhunt Hook? For his Tactical nous??

People also ate up Griffin’s story because he came across as sincere, the complete opposite to Gus 24hrs later. Gus’ interview still makes me cringe. Was a horrendously poor look for our club.

Headhunted from where?
Griffin didn’t come across as sincere. He may have been believed by people outside the district, but anybody with half an ounce of common sense knew it was bs. How could he have fixed the juniors in less than 2 1/2 years as well as coach first grade? The records and results show that was a load of crap!

It amazes me you and frog still defend that comment. It’s complete and utter crap and easy to prove, and he was headhunted now was he? lol what are you on the merkin was unemployed ffs the story becomes better for hook every time.

We brought more players through in Clearys first stint here than hooks and Matt Cameron, the guy who was actually hired to look after the junior pathways is still employed here he never went anywhere. Nothing about Griffin or yours or frogs claims add up, it’s bullshit.

I doubt he was blindsided with the 12 months of reports he wasn't wanted.

No he always gave credit to the people he worked with.

I don't remember seeing that but regardless. Hook was towing his new employers line was always going to be a hatchet job on Gus. As ch9 reporting was always going to be the opposite wheras the truth was somewhere in the middle

What is known is that he is a prick that no one wants to work with

No the truth is our junior pathways were not a shambles when Griffin arrived as he claimed, there is irrefutable evidence to show that. Him claiming that is as ridiculous to me as if he went on tv and claimed he was the first man on the moon.

Gus always went to great lengths to give credit to the people he hired when discussing the work at Penrith, always. He never took credit for the work of other people, that was Griffin.

Edit: I am not talking about who forced him out or who did what behind the scenes or whether or not he was doing a good job, I am done worrying about that, I am just saying the claim that our junior pathways were a mess when he arrived and that he fixed them is completely false, there is no excuse for it and as I said its very easy to prove false.

He said the place was a shambles not the junior pathways. 2015 was terrible injury wise so he was probably correct just not sure that any FG coach wouldn't of fixed it
Said there was no plan when to get those guys into FG. That is one thing he did well got guys into FG and look like FGer

In 2015 we won the NSWRL club championship as well as our second NYC premiership in 3 years. We also won a NSW cup premiership in 2014 to go along with our prelim final in FG but yeah the place was a shambles, like I said its as ridiculous as claiming he was the first man on the moon, utter rubbish.

Aaaand from your link:

“They had a lot of juniors but no systems, no structures,” Griffin told NRL 360 Sounds like he is talking about the juniors to me but maybe he means something else when he says juniors, structures etc LOL

I have to agree Hook did a good job of getting juniors ready for first grade. We haven't done that well over the years, but we seem to get it right now and did it well when he was here. The Broncos and the Storm have always done a good job at blending juniors in to their teams. There is obviously some science and psychology that goes into the process and previously we used more luck than judgement. Let's hope we continue to use the methods we have now.

Thanks for that Hook and I 'm sure his strict old school tough approach is probably helpful when it comes to juniors, leaving them in no doubt that first grade is tough, serious, business. The trouble is, that approach will wear thin if it's the only style you have and perhaps is part of what led to Hook's demise.

The great Alex Ferguson was one asked whether he always used the "hairdryer treatment" on players, referring to his infamous loud ranting at players when only inches from their face. He said "you can only use that with certain players, some need a cuddle and to be told they are the best player in the world". I believe Jamie Soward was of that ilk. RCG on the other hand seems like he needs the "hairdryer treatment" to fire him up. (Turns volume up to 11) "Come on RCG, you useless great lump get out there and rip and tear. What are you, a latte sipping Eastern suburbs wuss? You are a Westie. Crush, kill, destroy!". A Tommy Raudonikis slap in the face for RCG as well. That should do it.

Martie and Froggy love to imply that people are so biased in regards to Moylan....imagine if Moylan did a bitter, whinging interview after being punted in which he called players fat and lazy, the club and shambles and implied the whole place was amateur and then falsey took credit for turning it around? He be bashed form pillar to post.

I think Griffin was entitled to be bitter given the circumstances surrounding his sacking. It is rare for a coach to be sacked, soon after having his contract extended, and when his team has qualified for the finals during his tenure. Maybe some of the things he said on his NRL 360 appearance were not entirely accurate but under the circumstances I don’t hold it against him. Good luck to the bloke in his future endeavours and it would not surprise me if he got another crack at a head coach gig in the future.

I think Moylan manoeuvred his own exit as opposed to being punted.

Moylan was a fan favourite, rightly so, given some of the things he was capable of doing.

He had a pretty good debut year with the Sharks but is really under the pump with Sharks supporters for his form this season. I think a lot of his issues are to do with his dodgy hamstrings which can really effect your confidence.

Actions speak louder than words Betcats and it is hard to defend the way he conducted himself during his final season with us.

He was employed without an interview process or any other candidates being interviewed..... what else would you call it?

These are the comments that get you so rattled

“They had a lot of juniors but no systems, no structures,” Griffin told NRL 360.

“They had no staff or resources applied to turning those players into NRL players, and there’s a big difference between having juniors and having potential NRL players. The structures, the training ethics, the attention to detail on the skill acquisition, all those things from the senior side down were in terrible shape.

“When I went to Penrith they weren’t happy with the direction the club was going … I think they had played off for the wooden spoon the year before,”

That's hardly earth shattering stuff, nor do I think there's 'irrefutable evidence' against his claims. That goes out the window by the simple fact he, a coach whose main attribute is junior development, was hired in the first place.

It's what lead to Madge's downfall at Souths, he spoke about it on Matty Johns one night and he sounded like he'd learned a lot since being replaced there.

Exactly how I saw it too.
