Former Panthers in the NRL

That makes sense and it's easy for me to talk with the benefit of hindsight.

it’s not really hindsight, Sivo’s offensive threat was known, they decided his defence wasn’t good enough. But I would’ve thought it was worth one or two years in our top 30 to bring him up to speed defensively? We didn’t have to rush him into FG.

Worrying about a wingers defence is a bit silly to me anyway. Tries normally go through them because the inside guys get done on a play and stripped for numbers.

Ultimately it’s not the end of the world, but it would’ve been nice to see us back such an offensive threat. Guys with his unique talent don’t come along often.

Now yes. When we signed Phillips Sivo was playing for St Marys. Even when MWZ signed he was far from FG

He wasn’t far from FG when we signed MWZ, he was playing reserves. And we’re only talking about a top 30 spot here.

MWZ was signed as a backup, and we already had someone very similar in Phillips. The fourth wing spot could’ve easily gone to Sivo.

Sivo was worth one of MWZ’s or Phillips place easily.

Hardly a fair comparison. MWZ and Phillips were our 3rd/4th choice wingers. Sivo got a shot at a starting spot, you cant reasonably keep the guy from an opportunity to start in the NRL to play CC.

A better question is whether he was worth losing Mansour or DWZ. That's much less obvious, or at least was at the beginning of the year.

Anyway our wingers are firing big time atm so I'm not sure why we're lamenting one that got away.

Not sure that’s how it would’ve played out. Can’t imagine the Eels would’ve promised a rookie a starting spot. Doubt any team would do that.

Signing him to a top 30 place would’ve been an indication he was in our plans for FG.

You cant know any of that. You're just speculating in a way at suits your outlook. All we know is a guy who was pernially in reserve grade got catapulted into a starting opportunity he almost certainly would not have gotten here behind Mansour and DWZ. Maybe he impressed the Eels in a way we should have been impressed by him earlier. Maybe something else was at play. Either way comparing a starting winger with reserve graders isn't fair.

I'm not convinced he's better than our wingers atm anyway. It's hardly a massive loss at this point.

There’s no one coming through that has his X factor, very few do.

It was worth a gamble for a top 30 spot, hardly any risk involved.
That's right. Use up some of our cap on a possible first grader only to see someone like Silvo go to a club willing to pay overs.
