Former Panthers in the NRL

Good story about one of the good guys in League and a former stalwart player for us Michael "Flash" Gordon.

Flash was my daughters favourite for ages. Only player she’s shed a tear over when they left. Only met him once, but a more polite and genuine bloke you’ll never meet.

Michael Gordon was very underrated. Cruelled by injuries his whole career especially in the early days. Thought he was destined for a longer stint at rep level but it wasn't to be.

Remember reading about him in the local paper the year before he arrived and there was a lot of buzz. Took a few rounds before he got his shot. Lang felt Youngquest, Hookey and Galea were better starters. Glad he changed his mind.

And in 2011 either side of his injury. His form was incredible. Not quiet as exciting as Wesser at his peak. But he was as safe as it gets at fullback and brilliant defensively. Pumping out 200m+ regularly and ofcourse setting the point scoring record for us with a perfectly timed try at fulltime against Souths. Watched that game 20+ times. Looked like a trainibg run how comfortably we were doing everything.

For those unaware Tom Eisenhuth played his 2nd fg game on the weekend nearly 7 years after debuting with us.
Unfortunately he copped an accidental elbow to the throat, which he was hospitalised and later treated for a fractured larynx.
He is expected to miss according to NRL Physio between 6 - 10 weeks.

Lets hope he makes a full recovery and doesn't have to wait too much longer for his next game of first grade.

I watched that game live in Toulon, France at 9 in the morning. Also the '09 GF.

I was at the game when Tom made his debut in Auckland all those years ago. Late call up from the Under 20’s when Brad Tighe fell ill on the morning of the game.

His 2nd game on the weekend was as a result of an injury in the warm up.

He hails from a great Lower Blue Mountains footy family and I so hope he recovers quickly and get to play in Sydney so his family can actually get to see him play in the NRL.

Braidon Burns and Adam Keighran are ones to watch this year, both could prove to be huge mistakes by our front office

To be fair, Keighran had the likes of Cleary, Maloney and Luai ahead of him in the pecking order. Whilst Burns had Blake, Whare and probably Phillips and Cartwright ahead of him.

It was always going to be a tough decision to let both of them go for a chance at first grade somewhere else.

I’m sure the Cowboys are hurting with letting the likes of Kikau and Pongia go.

You would have to think the Cowboys would be near impossible to stop if they still had Kikau and Ponga added into there current squad.

Agreed. Keighran could of made a great hooker and Burns could of developed to the right centre we need

You can’t keep them all.

Both players were allowed to pursue better opportunities elsewhere for more money. You cannot blame Gould for letting them leave.

If both were still with the Panthers neither would be in our top 17 rightly or wrongly.

A lot of people seem to be really high on Luai here, assuming he is the future 6. I missed the Warriors game where he made his name, but is his hype all just based on that one game? I haven't seen enough of him to make any calls about his ability outside of that, so I'm wondering where all this certainty is coming from.

When he was coming through the grades with Nathan there was a belief at the time he would be the better of the two. Injuries in the lower grades slowed his development.
So a bit of lower grade hype added with his man of the match performance against the Warriors.
He has a lot of natural talent. The key will be to perform week to week when he gets his chance.
