QUEENSLAND cricket legend Stuart Law is set to be unveiled as Australia's new batting coach, as Justin Langer leaves to take over the head coaching role in Western Australia.

As reported by News Limited newspapers, Law will take over from Langer for the rest of the South African Test series.

It is believed the role is in a part-time capacity, although Law is in the box seat to get the job on a permanent basis.

Former Test opener Langer will take charge of WA which has been in turmoil since the drunken antics of Perth Scorchers players in the Champions League, with Lachlan Stevens quitting the WA coaching role.

Law only played a solitary Test for Australia, but is fondly regarded in Queensland for breaking through seven decades of state cricket misery to captain Queensland's drought-breaking first Sheffield Shield win in 1995.

He is currently a high performance coach at the Centre of Excellence.

"It was a dream playing cricket at the highest level and if I was offered this job on a long-term basis, it would be the next best thing," Law told News Limited newspapers on Sunday.

The 44-year-old played his only Test in Ricky Ponting's debut match against Sri Lanka in Perth in 1995.

Law played the twilight of his first-class career in English county cricket and then took the road less travelled, coaching Sri Lanka briefly and then Bangladesh before returning to Australia to accept a job at the COE.

Should get Jason Gillespie as batting coach. Teach the batsmen how to leave wide balls outside off alone unless the field is spread, teach them how to hit along the ground too.

Law wass a good batsman and unlucky that he was in an era when were were very strong, he played one test and made 50 something not out from memory

I remember him more for his arrogance than his batting ability
