I just wabted to express my deepest condolences to all his family and friends. I only found out a couple of minutes ago and am shocked and upset. Although I had never had the pleasure of meeting him personally, he was one of the friendliest guys in the forums and was always having fun and taking nothing too seriously. It was a joy to have known him through here and I feel as though I've lost a friend.

Chris, I have emailed my article to you via hotmail. Take a look and see if it's good enough.

I'll be around a bit more from round 9. Raider69 has been banned indefinatley. Due to this fact, we are going to have to find a replacement for him. I'd like to thank Nick for his time with Easts. I believe Nick will be part of a Raiders team next year [if he is allowed to post again].

Chris if you didn't get that article, let me know and I'll post it in this thread and someone can post it on my behalf. I was also successful in interviewing Ian Buchanan from the Gold Coast Dolphins. But I might keep that for the first round in the Semi's ;-) .

Im stunned and humbled by the responses here. Youve made me laugh and cry as I read through your posts and I thank you for taking the time to acknowledge and remember, for some of you a stranger, for others an acquaintance and for a few of you a friend. Thank you.

You have a player banned as well, join the club ;-) other than that, just wanted to wish you luck against the Panthers.

I said earlier that I had written a little tribute here it is

I would like to share a post that I wrote about Matt last year after the Grand Final win in which Matt played his last forums 7 match, a post I wrote before I even knew that Matt was so seriously ill although Matt did have an operation.

____________

Well I have noticed that one of our greatest performers this year didn't actually receive a Team Award.

I am talking about the Backpacker. I have a sneaky feeling that BP may have played just about every game.....

I reckon BP deserves the Luke Phillips Award (I know he's retired - see the similarity) for being gutsy and the toughest player on the field, a player who plays with injuries, skill, courage and commitment.....and always pulls of those last minute ditch efforts to help win the tight matches.

Phillips has retired but will never been forgotten as one of the Roosters best....just like you.

RoostarGirls comments:

I would like to say that you are the one that pulled everyone together...you have played through adversity and shown tremendous courage....in my opinion you were the greatest attribute to our team all season and you will be sorely missed by your friends. You were the one here week in week out encouraging everyone and keeping smiles on our faces..even when you were probably finding it hard to put a smile on your own face....you are my great friend. The Team will definately not be the same without you.

Cheers Buddy!!! I know its not a certificate but its what I think of you.

If anyone is capable of doing the BP a certificate that would be great...or if you would just like to add your own personal comments here for our retiring hero....please do.

Matt only told me what was wrong with him about a month or so before he lost his fight and naturally I was devastated. Matt was a person that over the past year I had grown to love and admire and bearing in mind never actually met. Matt was my pm buddy, my confidant and a father figure to me.

I know that Matt loved this website but he was upset with the behaviour of some and the lack of sportsmanship shown recently in the 7’s. I urge everyone to remember when talking and dealing with others - that these people are real.

I would like to leave my tribute by saying that this place won’t ever be the same without the Backpacker and my heart goes out to Matt’s family as they have lost a brilliant man that had it all love, compassion, strength and humour to name but a few.

Matt my friend Rest in Peace…I’ll miss you and love you and hope that you can catch up with my Dad up there in heaven and get to a few Roosters matches along the way. XXXX

I haven't visited the site for quite a while, so my apologies for the delay in this. Morticia - I don't presume to know you or your dad, but having read all the tributes here and from Pen's article, which was sensational and moving, it is evident that he's a man that touched many lives and what more can you want from a life. Anyway, I just wanted to add my condolences, belated as they are.

I'm in too. Poor form being left in charge and posting last (and then, posting a fairly cliched and trite piece), but hopefully it's ok.

Excellent round guys. We should be able to win this! :D

Thanks for making my job easy and posting without prompting.

What an extraordinary effort. I've just read all the articles and am astounded by the passion that you have all managed to convey. The common thread woven through each article shows just what league represents for us all.

chris, you have been outstanding the past few weeks, taking over for me in your rookie year, and then producing another great article.

Bubbles, you have such a gift for writing, top shelf.

Pump, you nailed it. To me, being absorbed in an article from title to word count is what the 7's is about. Like I said, you nailed it.

Coggie, if I'm ever in the trenches your the bloke I'd chose to be looking out for me.

EASTS TO WIN !!

Just read everyone's articles and they're fantastic!

RC - everytime you write anything on this site your passion for the Chooks is evident and I just love ya work!

Pen - you've touched everyone with your article, which is an achievement in itself.

Pump - man, I cringed when I read about the ten pounder - aarrgghhh! A future Chook's prop perhaps! I've always thought that the best way to increase the fan base is to breed 'em!

CWB - great article. I had someone tell me last night that he thinks we shouldn't have the finals, that it should be like the soccer where first over the line at the end of the 26 rounds is the winner! I'm going to email him your article, 'cause there truly is nothing like the smell of the finals!

Go Easts!

Just had a look at the result of the game and am feeling a little flat :( .

It was a close game, but bummer we didn't get the points in the end. Congrats to Pen on your article - you had a blinder, as usual!

Don't know what else to say - think I might go and eat some paste...

God f**king dammit.

If we'd played anyone else it would have been a white wash.

F**k

It was a great run for our squad. You all did BP proud, just disappointed we couldn't get the win.

Guys if my sums are correct, [and I'm much like Jethro in that respect] I don't think we are going to make the semi's. The good ship lolly pop better watch out next game though as we are going to kick some arse.
