His father was against him playing NRL, Nathan wanted to play NRL. They were in disagreement. I assume by the fact that he is in the team that Gus disagreed with Cleary senior and hence he is no longer the coach.

Tom.

You're talking about a kid who still lives at home. If his dad advised against staying at the panthers b/c it was too early to debut I'm willing to bet he'd follow his dads advice.

Is there anything other an speculation to back up this theory on why Cleary was sacked?

"But as the talented halfback admits, he most likely wouldn't have been afforded the opportunity to play NRL at such a young age had his father remained at the club as coach.

Ivan was controversially told during the off-season that his services at Penrith were no longer required, casting a shadow over the future of his son, who was off contract at the end of 2016.

But within a month of Ivan's departure, Nathan signed a two-year extension in November and added another year to that deal this month to ensure he will remain at Penrith until at least the end of the 2019 season."

The fact that Cleary snr wasn't ready to pick Cleary jnr in the NRL is well known. If that is the reason for him being sacked is speculation. But it sounds as good as any other theory that I've heard.

This is the NRL360 rumour mill at work. I wouldn't believe their rumours any further than I could throw Sam Kasiano.

Having said that if I were the coach of Penrith and I had a resource such as Phil Gould available I'd pick his brains occasionally too. It all depends whether or not Gould is forcing himself on Griffin, if you get my meaning.

When Cleary was there I was at a café drinking coffee. Gould a few senior players and Ivan where there discussing the game plan. It was a quick briefing but Gus did most the talking.

Hypothetically, you would be excuse in thinking it was Penrith's time not to make the finals. You'd swear that was the case going by the way this teams has been playing. The stupider errors, the dumberer mistakes. All the hallmarks of players, and laughingly for the amount of money that they are on,can continue to perform like Circus Clowns.

I mean, when they get paid, does it ever cross their minds that the money is being earned under false pretense of being described as a professional football player?

I'm sure they don't give a flying f**k.

No don't panic.

Close loss to the roosters, could argue we were robbed. 1 point loss to the Rabbitohs with Moylan, Peachey, Blake, Hiku, James Fisher-Harris and Cartwright out of the side.

We could easily be sitting in the top 4 right now.

Its a very long season. We will be there end of year.

Quoting myself for posterity. God damn.

Two embarrassing losses to the Sharks and the Eels have me feeling a little less optimistic. Almost ready to panic.

The team is playing with absolutely no confidence. If that returns then we are more than capable of making the 8. Winning the comp is a different story...even with confidence I don't think we have the gameplan to beat quality teams. Not yet anyway.

Have to start small. A win this weekend is where it starts.

Griffin has lost us another game.

Carty trying to play 5/8 is killing us. Moylan needs to go there... but no our coach is too f**king stupid to try that.

10 nil after 20 minutes.

Cartwright keeps trying to play to a bloke an inch from him well covered when he has unmarked Moylan out the back.

Hiku just watched his opposition winger catch the ball as he cowered from it with 2 blockers helping him. Moylan than failed to cover him in defence.

16 nil.

if there is no team changes or griffin isnt gone by the warriors game it is a joke
The changes needed he has proven will never come.

Hiku will never be dropped.
Moylan will never play half.
Edwards as a result will never play fullback or wing unless there are injuries.

Edit
Our issues are much worse than that though... positional changes would be step 1 of a lot of steps to be honest.
