Have you got a workhorse in there, amongst all that ball-playing flair? I can't find room for Todd either, but I want to. He was a big part of why the 1991 GF was so close in the end. Penrith had all the possession in the second-half and it's where Toddy did his best work.

Harriman was helpful too, he seemed adamant that Canberra should win that...

The likes of Gary Coyne and Dean Lance were important, Clyde was a freak but they did a lot of work too in various Raiders teams

I watched the GF loss to Newcastle the other day, Kosef, Gartner and Menzies were a great back row, and Innes was a terrific centre

I’d also forgotten how good Adam Muir was...

Kevin Ward was something else

No Les Boyd or Mark Broadhurst for a bit of fire

I started watching that but couldn’t watch the ending again lol. How good were Chief and Spud from minute 1 and Toovey just keeping going after all the treatment he copped including a deliberate stomp on his head

Muir was a hell of a player, I actually watched the game from the 97 finals a couple of weeks before the GF and he had a big one then too

Kosef could have been a great if not for 4 knee recos, have been pretty lucky over the years in the backrow when you consider these combinations

Menzies/Gartner/Kosef
Menzies/Watmough/Kennedy
Menzies/Watmough/Stewart

Even the current lineup of Thompson/Sironen/Trbojevic isn’t too bad

They are slightly before my time so forgot about them ! Not sure how many games Boyd played for Manly. Speaking of fire I see one of the classic games this week is Newtown v Manly 83 with the huge scrap

Was going through the garage last week and came across a signed Terry Randall jumper I forgot I had that I won on another forum. Didn’t see any of him playing but have seen some footage of him on a documentary I highly recommend, The Fibros and the Silvertails, and he looked a fearsome player

The highlight of this whole virus/lockdown for me has been having the time to wander down memory lane and watch old footage and talk about the old players. I mentioned a Bears v Broncos final from 1994 last week as a memorable game and that is on the classics menu for this week too

Sirro has done pretty well there

The centres and 5/8 are all greats and interchangeable

I’d probably have Sironen at 11 and O’Connor in 5

Bench would be interesting

I think the most impressive thing about Sirro's list is he wasn't scared to put Tedesco in. So many reasons he might not have - Teddy leaving the Tigers, the fact he's played only 10 games for NSW, the general 'better in my day' vibe that ex-players can bring to these sort of things etc.

As much as I don't like Gallen, I'd find it hard to leave him out.

I thought Walters and Langer played more than 34 games together tbh, is that legit? They had almost 10 years together at the bronx

EDIT: NRL Era, my bad

Damn that got me curious so I went digging to find the most successful Warriors halves pairings. (Criteria = minimum 10 games played together)

Green/Johnson = 63% (played 16, won 10)
Maloney/Seymour = 60% (played 20, won 12)
Alexander/Jones = 57% (played 14, won 8)
Witt/Rovelli = 57% (played 30, won 17)
Simon/Jones = 56% (played 25, won 14)
Townsend/Johnson = 53% (played 34, won 18)
Hohaia/Jones = 51% (played 43, won 22)
Green/Nikorima = 50% (played 12, won 6)
Tony/Jones = 48% (played 21, won 10)
Ropati/Rovelli = 47% (played 19, won 9)
Maloney/Johnson = 45% (played 38, won 17)
Ngamu/Jones = 43% (played 51, won 22)
Fien/Jones = 40% (played 15, won 6)
Leuluai/Johnson = 40% (played 45, won 18)
Foran/Johnson = 38% (played 13, won 5)
Moon/Jones = 30% (played 10, won 3)
Beverley/Jones = 25% (played 12, won 3)
Endacott/Jones = 25% (played 12, won 3)

I guess the main highlight there is how few long-term halves pairings we've had over the years.
