Well I think he didn't really care about Rugby in general. Culturaly he was from the Catholic Bourgeoisie so I guess he would have been more in favour of Union.

Otherwise you are right I don't think he was in favour of the local particularism...

If de Gaulle really cared about RL,he would not have agreed or allowed the league assets to be retained by the rugby union in 1946.These assets were seized in december 1941 by the Vichy government. Also where did 300,000 francs the rugby league had in their bank account prior to the seizure ?.
The Vichy govt ,the French rugby union officials who gave moral support in the seizure, and de Gaulle have nothing to be proud about in this act of plain theft/appropriation. i have nothoing but disdain for the lot of them.

Was he aware of what happened anyway? Even if he was aware, don't you think that keeping things in perspective having Bousquet or Papon back in the administration, or ignoring most of the collaboration of the French Industry bosses/owners masked what happened to RL.

I don't mean that this must be forgotten but that these were very troubled years and in my view De Gaulle is not especially guilty far less in all cases than the head of the FFR and the ministers of the Vichy regime.

probably worth Millions today when you include interest on something like 300,000 that long ago.

Unfortunately there's no American citizen which can claim justice on this and contract attorney to attack French government to get a compensation...

If de Gaulle wasnt aware as to what happened he is a real dumbo and i find that hard to believe. The strength of the resistance against the vichy and Nazis was in the south of France(where he had many contacts),guess what where league was strong. He would as a major anti vichy player in WW2 be aware of major Vichy proclomations/decisions during occupation. Not arguing about the French collaborationists who deserved what they got.I will agree the FFR officials and the Vichy regime were the major players in the seizure.De Gaulle still had the opportunity to right a wrong and so have successive French govts since 1946,they didnt, and they deserve a kick up the a...se,and should be reminded publicly of their failure to do so.How many years did it take for the French govt to actuallly allow rugby league in France to use the name rugby.
For anyone to think somehow the whole episode should be swept under the carpet,I suggest if your house or land was stolen from you would you not still try to get it back decades down the line ?.If not then you have more money than sense.

The ressurection of French Rugby League will be the greatest thing ever to happen to rugby league.

It needs to happen, wrongs need to be righted!
