yeh France v England in Paris would be a good opener! I'd seed it so France and England in one group and Aus and NZ in others. The only decent sized stadiums in the RL heartland would be Toulouse at 34k or the very nice Villeneuve at 50k.

Paris main stadium is 80k which might look a bit empty for an opener, or the smaller parc de princes 44k stadium is more likely for the opener.

Whats the possible venues?

Paris
Stade de France 80k
Park de Princes 44k

Toulouse
Stadium Toulouse 34.5k

Perpignan
Stade Gilbert Brutus 13k (RL)
Stade Aime Garal 14.5k (RU)

Carcassonne
Stade Albert Domec 10k (potential to add temp seating)

Villeneuve
Stade Pierre -Mauroy 50k
Lille Metropole 18k (athletics oval)

That’s not the same Villeneuve that has a team in Elite 1. Also no way any games get played at Aime Giral when Catalans stadium is available. Toulouse Olympique play at the Union ground now so imagine that will get games as well (19k).

For me targeting a few “event” games for 30k + stadiums makes sense. Opener, France V England (final pool game), Semis, Final. Paris, Toulouse, Marseille, Lyon, Montpellier etc to choose from.

The rest can probably be 10-25k stadiums using “heartland” stadiums like Perpignan, Toulouse, Avignon, Carcassone etc a few times each.

is Lyon a chance? How big is the stadium?
It will be interesting to see what Non RL cities they choose as venues. Theres plenty of nice football/union stadiums in Southern france in Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Toulon even Barcelona. I wonder if they will do a city bid hosting process?

Yes. Recently things have seemed on a bit of an upswing. Here’s hoping there is enough interest and the French RL get a good result.

Hopefully Bennett & Robinson who were strong backers of this proposal can bring a few French players down to their clubs in the next few years.

Agree. Even if a few talented juniors could join the pathways for the likes of the Roosters and Redcliffe would do wonders for increasing the talent pool for France by 2025.

Throw in the Storm who’ve had some in the pat too, or any club for that matter. Even if they never make NRL a few years in NRL juniors or QLD/NSW Cup would be better development than Elite 1. Tony Gigot is probably a good example of that.
