Congrats Friz, well deserved. Word is he'll miss out on final 17 along with Morris if so I'm sure he'll be right to play this week.Me i'd have him there ahead of Jackson.

Not your best post...matey.

i like Friz, like i said he's easily our best forward. However one thing NSW do have is a heap of quality back rowers, and IMO friz is well down the pecking order, and the emergence of genuine mobile, ball playing back rowers like Cartwright hasnt helped his cause....

i would like to see Friz develop a passing game, and not just be a bash and barge type..perhaps once again this is due to MAry's game plan rather then Friz's ability...

St George Illawarra Dragons forward Tyson Frizell to make State of Origin debut for NSW

His teammates say he is made for State of Origin football and, come next Wednesday night, Tyson Frizell will be ready to show just how much he belongs at the elite level.
The St George Illawarra forward is one of five debutants chosen by NSW coach Laurie Daley for the State of Origin series opener against Queensland in Sydney.
Frizell has been a shining light for the Dragons so far this season and has earned his representative call up through nothing but his own excellent form.
The 24-year-old told The Leader it was a dream come true – even though he was made to wait for it.
“I was just at home sitting on the lounge watching the footy,” he said.

“The phone call didn’t come merkinil] about 8.30 at night.
“The whole day dragged on for what felt like three days just waiting to find out.
“It’s been something that I’ve wanted to do the past year and this year too.

“To be called up and be a part of the squad now is very exciting.”
Frizell said while he didn’t know what to expect playing at Origin level, he was thrilled to have Dragons teammate Josh Dugan by his side, with the 26-year-old retaining his place in Daley’s squad.

“I’d say there’s going to be a lot of nerves and a lot of thoughts going through [my] mind,” Frizell said.

“But until you walk onto that field you’ve got no idea what’s going to happen.

“Duges has been playing awesome for the Blues and at club level too.

“It’s really nice to have another club mate in the squad as well.”

Dugan, a veteran of nine Origin appearances, told The Leader he was delighted for Frizell.

“He was unlucky not to get a start last year I thought,” he said.
“He’s been playing some great footy over the last couple of years and he’s really come into his own as a player and as a person.

“I’m really stoked for him and and you can tell how happy he is.

“But he’s one of those humble people that doesn’t want to get too much into it and tries to brush it off as much as he can.

“I think he is [made for Origin].”

HE’S fully focused on making his Origin debut on Wednesday week but powerhouse back-rower Tyson Frizell may yet be parachuted into the Dragons lineup for their clash with the Cowboys at WIN Stadium on Saturday.Frizell was one of five debutants named in a 19-man NSW squad on Monday as coach Laurie Daley decided to keep fans, and perhaps the Queensland camp, guessing as to the make-up of his final 17 for game one.

Frizell appears locked in a battle with Cronulla prop Andrew Fifita for a place on the bench and could play for the Dragons on Saturday should he miss the final cut.
As expected Frizell wasn’t named in Paul McGregor’s squad for Saturday’s clash with Jason Nightingale shifting to fullback in place of Josh Dugan with Kurt Mann recalled on the wing.

Joel Thompson (suspension) and Benji Marshall (hamstring) will both return though Josh McCrone was named as 18th man.

Paul Green named his team without Jonathan Thurston, Matt Scott, James Tamou, Michael Morgan and Justin O’Neil.
For his part Frizell said he will be preparing as if he’s a lock for Origin I this week.
“You’ve just got to prepare like you will be playing even though down the track you might be on that extended bench,” Frizell said.

“Anything can happen and you need to be prepared. There’s no excuses for going out there and not playing well so I’ll be preparing well either way.”
Frizell has mounted a virtually irresistible case for selection in his past two performances for the Dragons, with a shift to the middle unlocking his best form. He said he’ll happily play edge or middle at Origin level.
“Depending on what Laurie wants to do I’ll be more than happy to play in the middle or on the edge. I’m comfortable in either position,” Frizell said.

“Having the chance to play in the middle the last few games for the Dragons has changed my game up a little bit.
“It sort of simplified my game a little bit and got me back to the things I’m better at.”

Whether he makes the final cut or not, Frizell is clearly part of a long-term plan for NSW with Daley leaving the likes of Beau Scott and Ryan Hoffman out of a more youthful side.

“It’s something every player wants to be a part of and I’m over the moon to be a part of it this year,” Frizell said.
“There are a few new faces but all the guys who’ve been picked have been playing well for a number of years.

“They haven’t just had a breakout year they’ve been in good form for a couple of years. It’s something I definitely want to be a part of for years to come.”

Disappointed for Friz. Unless injuries hit, he is unlikely to get a run this series. Would've loved to see him rip and tear in the sky blue.

I think there are at least 7 backrowers that i would pick ahead of friz.

That's because you have no idea what you are talking about.

Name your 7 backrowers. And none of this naming middle forwards shit. Edge backrowers since that is where he would play.

A real shame for Frizz but a big in for us.
Dumb call by the blues,he would kill it if given the chance. Especially hitting holes off Maloney/Reynolds

Won't matter either way because it's my personal opinion and you'll be sure to disagree but for what's it's worth..

Wade graham
Bryce Cartwright
Josh Jackson
Boyd cordner
Beau scott

There's 5, and then you could say Greg bird, who plays either 2nd row or lock, giving you six..

Luke Lewis isn't even on this list as I think his best days are past him, however his form the last month has been very good...

I think he'll get a run this series & imo at jackson's expense especially after a loss which may come next week.I think he offers more than jackson. Wade Graham as well.

You could be right. I went for Jackson purely on higher work rate but you could interchange him with friz and wouldn't lose anything ..
Wade graham in my opinion very under rated, a natural leader and has that natural origin aggression and intensity which I think friz needs more of...
Graham also deceptively quick due to being an ex back, and has a decent kicking game if needed...

Graham is a better all rounder IMO
Scott good in ever-decreasing minutes ditto Lewis who was great in his day
Cordner is inconsistent IMO
Cartwright's defence needs another year or two
The guys that you put forward Red are arguably better on their day but for consistent performance I'd rate Friz good enough to have earned his spot

It's a forum so it's about good honest personal opinion as long as there's no hate/personal attacks when discussing players/coach's. At least you have the conviction to go with what your head says, nobody on here is 100% right or wrong or even close to that ;-).....

Shame for friz.

I would have him before Jackson as I think he and cordner offer much the same.

Let's hope loz sees this post game one and recalls him.

The sooner Origin is completely stand alone the better. I hate how clubs are forced to play without their best players, it makes the comp a joke IMO

I still remember in 2011 when Saints had I think 11 players selected for Origin 2 and we were playing the Titans. At that point we were first and they last on the ladder. Oddly enough they beat us and our season went downhill from there.

Maybe we'll beat the Cowboys this week and Frizzell will play well but it's a shell of a game without 5 from their side.

Been saying the same for years.. Understand the $$$, however, it dilutes the comp proper.

Until we get a true league lover in TV land who negotiates the deal I feel we'll be stuck with the current scenario.

At least one game will be played on a Sunday I think from next year forward
