And we have all know that is coming next year or when ever the new TV Deal starts, the constant bleating on about it gets a little bit tedious, for mine.

Having said that, I don't have a problem learning the dates 5 weeks out, to organise travel, I always seem to get cheep flights to the games, but hey that might just be how prepared I am for the draw to come out.

BaaAAaa?

Not really bleating about it - just pointing out that it's not a FULL draw.

It's a 4-day indicative draw.

Not like I'm blaming you for making it MiTS!
Actually scratch that, it IS your fault now. Make sure we get full draws from 2013 on or by goodness there'll be bleating.

yeah i don't really have a problem with them holding back exact dates and times .... its better than getting 14th v 15th as the main game on TV on a Friday night :?

Is it?

That might actually be a close game!

And it's not like they put anyone on 9 who is actually good anyway. All we get to watch are the Eels (of course I'm happy about that) or St George. Or, if you happen to live in Qld, Brisbane.

All down to the ratings of course!

Does it really matter that say in Rd 20 - we dont know if our game is friday, Saturday Sunday or Monday. I mean really.

Wait until we are five weeks out, if it is a blockbuster, put it on FTA, if both sides are running like busteds, then Fox only.

I can't see the problem. Apart from watching Parra, I love watching Friday night footy and I want decent games.

You're right. I don't care when they release the draw tbh. It shits my travel plans a little but I've always been able to deal with it.
What I don't like though, is Channel Nein choosing the games. They should be told by the NRL what they are going to show.

Agreed to some extent, but if 9's game choices are driven by ratings then that's not necessarily a bad thing for the game. Maybe the NRL could have a few vetoes a year or something, for when 9 really gets it wrong?

if you are going to tell nine which games to cover you might as well go the whole hog and have a season draw

No, not really. Manly and Melbourne might be coming 15th and 16th by round 12 next year. You just can't pick season long form.
Happy for the 6 week advance draw. I'd just rather the NRL tell Nein what to do, rather than the other way round.

So what you are saying is that it doesn't matter to you - so screw anyone who might want to plan their life?

Little doubt advance scheduling of a season allows people to better plan their attendance (if they so choose).
If it's planned in advance, then those who like the 5 week window still have it don't they?

And frankly, it's rather tiring to hear "but we'll get crap games on 9 on Friday nights". I watched us play on Friday nights quite a number of times this year - and although we lost most of them, some of them were actually quite good games.
If anyone forgot, we finished 14th.
Considering there will be 2 (two) games on Fridays, surely there's every chance that one of them is worth watching?

And even if both of them are terrible, all that means is that there are some good games to watch on either Saturday or Sunday.

We can only hope they are!!

[or will it be a result of internal unrest (Manly) and salary cap cheating (Melbourne)]

Either way, those clubs hate each other and I'd be tuning in for SURE to watch that game - bring on the biff.
Oh - they could also take the safe option and schedule another game for Friday night that could be well worth watching!

If you simply go through the draw round by round and put local derby's/ high rating teams in the 2 Friday timeslots, then great chance you've got top games of footy on Fridays every week - AND you get more fans travelling to watch their team (because they know more than 5 weeks out).

I prefer the way the draw is done now. I'd rather watch two in form sides on a friday night then two wooden spoon contendors. And that's bound to happen a number of times especially in the back half of the season. Having a fully pre-organised draw and really advantages a small minority. Also are FTA and Foxtel going to pay as much for the TV rights if they give up the option of picking games 5 to 6 weeks in advance. I'd think they woudn't.

What are the odds of all 4 teams playing on a Friday night being wooden spoon contenders?

And even if they are, doesn't that by neccessity mean that the Sat night and Sunday arvo and Monday night games will all be crackers?!?!?!

As far as not getting the cash: mmm - no. NRL rates better than AFL quite easily (note carefully, ratings = cash paid) and yet the AFL just got a billion dollars for their product (note carefully, they put their draw out in advance which ALSO contributes towards bigger crowds!).
Bottom line, if neinfox won't pay seventenone certainly will. League puts you a LONG way towards winning the ratings!

It's unlikely all 4 teams playing will be, but one game like that would be bad enough. Only the small minority have Foxtel also, so having the best games on saturday and monday means the majority miss out on them. Everyone deserves to see the high profile games, not those who have the luxury to afford Foxtel.

The AFL will get bigger crowds no matter what. They have the stadiums to fit them in and Melbourne are sports nuts. Sydney just doesn't have the amount of people willing to fork out money to actually go out and support their side every week. A pre-arranged draw won't make much difference. In regards to the deal from what's been reported it's extremely optimistic that we'll be able to match the money the AFL are getting. We'll get a large increase no doubt, but I doubt we'll get what the AFL are now going to get.

Of course they won't pay as much as they would have if they don't get to schedule the games they want. It all comes back to advertising and the audience size.
