I actually think there's one trait which a lot of quality fullbacks posess - ticker.

And Beau Ryan has plenty of that and I think he'd be our best bet at Fullback.

Good call for the rest of this season anyway. We have a real hot prospect in James Tedesco coming through, but he won`t be ready until some stage next season.

McKinnon made a couple of mistakes, but he put his body on the line on that play near the end there, yeah he knocked on but it was a VERY tough one to take and at least he contested it, unlike Moltzen.

For me, Brown should be at fullback without doubt, but Sheens just won't do it. I would rather McKinnon than Moltzen any day of the week.

the difference between Brown and Ryan, is that Ryan is prepared, moreso than Brown, to put his body on the line everytime, not just defensively, or running the ball back, but fielding kicks in heavy traffic.

Mullaney as a goalkicker isn't better than Marshall. He is a good fullback, but it appears he and Meaney aren't regarded as good enough by Sheens.

Gallant was our best fullback since Hodgson, he offered far more than anyone else we have played there since he left. Sheens wouldnt have him back unfortunately

In my opinion Gallant isn't the answer. We need a good long term option and I can't see him being a great player.

As for now FFS something needs to be done. McKinnon or Moltzen simply aren't first grade material and there is no need to groom either of them for next year.

A few months ago people were talking about Kevin Locke from the Warriors. I don't know if it was a tongue in cheek thread but I just saw the try he go against the Broncos. That is the attacking link from the back we have been missing. I know he has signed again with the Warriors but he looks good...and so does their halfback. They are two positions we are struggling with, I am sure the Warriors fans are happy.

Moltzen is a knob and fingers crossed as he was dragged on Friday night that he may be out of there next week. Problem now is that they will move him to the centres with Lawrence's injury. He is so ineffective it's not funny, I actually dislike everything about him just look at that knobby picture in his hipster sunnies and baseball cap going to training with Marshall on the back of the Tele last week. Moltzen - douche.

I have no idea why Brown has not claimed the position after last year.
We are stuck as Brown will likely be moved into the centres.

Are you kidding me? We don't need an attacking link at the back, we need a fullback that can do bread and butter basics: diffuse bombs, run the ball back hard on kick returns, wrap up the ball in goal line defence. All of this things we have been lacking since Gallant left and any attacking options offered by a fullback including simply backing up in the middle of the park to finish off half chances are just nice-to-haves compared to these glaring defensive deficiencies.

Fordy20, I guess I was more making comment on how good the try was. Your comments are valid but how many tries have we scored from fullback, I don't think too many.

Tigers definately need a F/B. Timid Moltzen never has or will be a F/B. He is petrified and grimisses if ball or any player happens to comes his way - continually caught out of position and will not put body on line. Only ever been a touch footballer and best position for tigers is in the crowd watching. Why has not Brown/Meaney/Maloney (goal kicker as well) been given a go! F/B would not have been trouble if powers to be had not forced out Hodgo prematurely.

Mullaney is not a top line goalkicker people.

Benji's goalkicking this year has improved dramatically and his career percentage would be higher than Mullaney's

Funny you mention that, as I believe Brown is both a confidence and a "touches" kind of player, in that whilst he's versatile and can cover several positions, he seems to play his best when he's getting his hands on the ball a lot. Sticking him on the wing or making him ride the pine just doesn't seem to engage him and he seems to wander in and out of games, whereas when he plays fullback he always seems to have a couple of big moments and a consistently solid level of play.

Melbourne have showed that a classy spine of 1, 6, 7, 9 will carry you to the semis every year and you can basically compliment those players with nufties and still be ultra competitive.

I agree with this 100%. If Sheens had choosen him at fullback from the start of the season and stuck with him it might have worked.

He didn't and Moltzen will be gone next year so I'd get rid of him.

McKinnon in my opinion is worse than Moltzen right now.

Ryan or Brown are options but I don't want to move Ryan as his form has been exceptional on the wing.
